OS: 9000 4.6.0.331/4.6.0.190 (Multilanguage)

New OS for the 9000 from AVEA.
This OS will load to ANY carrier's 9000 model by following the instructions below.
(Multilanguage version)

Details
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.331 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.6.0.331
Applications: 4.6.0.190
Software Platform: 4.0.0.172
File name: 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel331_PL4.0.0.172_A4.6.0.190_AVEA. exe
File size: 93.55MB

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...F22A6C2A830A17

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

This is the best bold OS right now, assuming its the same as the beta

JW021979 11-22-2008 05:39 AM

Whats different between this an 185? Any perticular fixes?

This is great news!

So.... I just upgraded to the .185 software. Anyone care to comment on the benefits of going to .190?

conker 11-22-2008 09:40 AM

I am running .190 Beta. Does anyone know what the changes might be?

aslamc 11-22-2008 10:03 AM

humm it will not work if you have the new 4.7 installed...

jdk2 11-22-2008 10:17 AM

It works with 4.7 but I find the phone doesn't stay in 3G where with .185 that was never an issue.

rmelano 11-22-2008 10:22 AM

So guys, right now I'm running with the .162, so what are the significants differences for the bold if I install the .190?

mjbanks 11-22-2008 10:29 AM

Web browser is better. It renders pages properly where .185 didn't

netPOSER 11-22-2008 10:44 AM

I hope this is less buggy than the OS that shipped with my at&t version.
4.6.0.167

I've never had a BB crash so much. I started with the 957 then > 7100 > 8700 > 8100 > 8310 > 9000

It crashed within 10 minutes. Went to download twitterberry and when I was presented with the "Download" button the screen turned white and only a battery pull fixed it. On the way home (same day) was listening to a podcast on it and the device was unresponsive but the podcast continued--a battery pull fixed it. Viigo updates once and then never does again until I pull the battery or do a alt + shift + del.

It seems with each new device crashes happen more an more. I can't recall my 957 ever crashing, my 7100 maybe a couple of times, my 8700 once or twice and my pearl just a few. My 8310 crashed a couple of times per month. And I'm a pretty heavy user and install a lot of apps.

DataCentre 11-22-2008 11:18 AM

I have .190 when it was in beta, and when I installed this to my computer and plugged in my phone, DM said that it was a downgrade. How annoying.

Yes, that is annoying. I guess I won't "upgrade".

Just got my Bold about a week ago so....

Installed it and I hope it's less buggy.

Still getting the java error on boot though. Must be some sort of application permission thing.

The main reason I left the link to 4.6

mjbanks 11-22-2008 01:20 PM

Is there anything new that would require re-sending the service books? I know when I upgraded my friend's Curve to 4.5, we needed to resend his service books so he could get HTML email and such.

Technarch 11-22-2008 01:27 PM

I tested the beta .190 briefly. One thing I noticed, was that when it came to the GPS with the BB maps it was way off the one time I looked at it.

That combined with the fact that it doesn't work with MS live search raises question marks for me, but oh well.

The upgrade doesnt work with Desktop version 4.7 for the AT&T phone. I had to use version 4.6

koleary19067 11-22-2008 04:38 PM

running on it now. no problems yet

TomN 11-22-2008 04:42 PM

I have 4.7 installed too and it wouldn't load. I just used the Loader.exe program in the same directory as the vendor.xml file is stored and it worked like a champ!

islandguy808 11-22-2008 05:55 PM

this is the 2nd time I installed 190. The first time (beta) I didn't have much luck. Battery life bad, no 3G, no picture thumb nails.

It's still too early to see if any of these things will improve. I know for sure I'm having the same problem with the thumb nails. Anyone know how to fix this?

thanks

Themes

You can unlock 4 more themes by editing the Blackberry.alx file...

ChestR_MolestR 11-22-2008 07:25 PM

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000)

I been running it for a little over 2 weeks and it drops a lot less calls. The .167 did, memory leak is a little better but not by much. It still boggs down every once in a while and odd thing when I have 1-2 other apps other the roblock.

Battery life I find is better been watching a lot more movies and do a lot more broswing. Moved at the begining of the month and its a new place and cable or internet won't be up for another month still. I still have to charge it once maybe twice a day which is about the same as before the only difference is I set my network to 3G instead of 2G/3G.

acohen 11-22-2008 07:51 PM

I installed .190 today (had been running .185 previously). I lost my picture thumbnails this time around. For the non-locked OEM photos I copied out the photos, deleted and recopied back in which fixed the thumbnails for those photos. The stock OEM photos however no luck with getting the thumbnails back.

Other than that seems to be no difference to .185 however it's only been a few hours.

Ratnamg - how do you edit the .alx file to unlock the additional two themes? Thanks in advance....

Andrew

kenv 11-22-2008 08:18 PM

To edit the blackberry.alx file, you cut all instances of _vendorID="115" or whatever number appears between the quotes. There are a few of them. That's it. Make sure you leave the carat intact at the end of each line on the right. That way it loads all themes, regardless of whether it's ATT, TIM, Orange, etc.

This time around, with the Bold, I haven't found any theme that I like better than the ATT, except maybe the Orange. They all have the same folders from which you may want to move some icons. Of course, you can see the BB Maps icon with the non-ATT themes. There are some other minor differences.

lisamel 11-22-2008 11:33 PM

on At&T USA site, it still lists .167 as the latest device os.
Is it safe to update to the .190?

bacchus-d 11-23-2008 12:22 AM

Does anyone know if the AVEA .190 has East Asian language support? I upgraded to TIM (Italy) .185 and can no longer read Korean or Chinese.

Unless I've missed something, none of the Asian carriers seem to have .185 rolled out just yet.

JSanders 11-23-2008 01:16 AM

This is a "Multilanguage" OS, which does not include the East Asian or CJK (Chinese Japanese Korean) language modules.

It's never 100% safe. The upgrade process backs your data up, so you will have something to revert to. Many people on this site update whenever a new OS is released. If there are problems, you will probably find the solution on this forum.

I am on AT&T, and running .190 Beta without any issues.

Yummy 11-23-2008 05:18 AM

Bold laggish after reset/battery pull out.

I've upgraded my Bold from the original .162 to .190 just yesterday. The only issues that I had with .162 was that it was freezing up for 2-3 sec. almost always after I hit the sent button when sending SMS, the same thing was happening when I selected say music or something from the media menu but this time for about 5 seconds. The device crashed on me about twice.
Now with the .190 it becomes after reset/battery pull out very laggish almost unusable for about 30 minutes, when I move around the menu the cursor doesn't move smoothly but jumps and it's really difficult to select something. Everything is fine after half an hour or so... The web browser is much better in this build (the rendering) majority of my favorite sites/pages display now correctly and look better than on opera mini 4.1

asteele 11-23-2008 07:33 AM

Thanks KenV... I edited the blackberry.alx file prior to upgrading and can now see themes from ATT, Orange, Silver, Telstra, TIM & T-Mobile.

Why do you prefer ATT to Orange? They all look the same to me on the preview screen, other than the background image. I am reluctant to load them all for feer of mucking up the order of icons etc... which probably sounds a bit lazy!

So, do you mind please letting us know what you like/dislike between ATT, Orange, Silver etc? :)

acohen 11-23-2008 09:25 AM

Thank you Kenv.

I went ahead and edited the .alx file. Once complete what do I need to do from there sychronize, back up, etc? I apologize in advance for the elementary questions.

Thank you - Andrew

kenv 11-23-2008 11:51 AM

Just follow the OS upgrade instructions at the top of this thread. Some people have said that DM 4.7 doesn't work for OS 190, so you can use DM 4.6, which does work, or you dig into the Program Files subdirectories, find the RIM loader.exe, and use that to load the OS.

As for the differences between the ATT theme and any of the others, it is a matter of personal preference as to style. The only substantive difference I know of is that the ATT theme blocks the BB Maps icon so that you can't use BB Maps. ATT wants you to use their Navigator service which costs US $10 a month. But I don't see the advantage of BB Maps over Google maps (unless BB maps cover other countries, while Google maps don't, but that wouldn't matter with ATT when you are in the US), both of which are free and neither of which have voice directions like Navigator. An alternative to Navigator is the Garmin program, which has voice directions, and for which you pay a one time fee of $99, or else you can pay $10 a month like the ATT Navigator.

That is the full extent of my knowledge on these subjects, maybe on all subjects, if you ask my wife.

Meanwhile, because it requires so much time to re-register the 3rd party programs and get all the icons back to where they were every time I upgrade the BB OS, I think I'm going to wait for something major before upgrading from 185, unless I read something here that convinces me otherwise.

conker 11-23-2008 11:55 AM

Regarding the time required to get everything back in place after an OS upgrade - I totally Agree!

What a PIA. I have 4 email addresses that I customize in my profiles, so it's an extra pain in the ass to go through the profiles and re-assign the various tones I have set for the various addresses. Gawd they need to fix this!!!

I installed .190 using 4.7 on 2 seperate berries and never had a problem

Magnum 11-23-2008 01:09 PM

I'm running DM 4.7 and .190 wouldn't load right, I mean something loaded, but when I viewed the version it said .157 on the BB. So it clearly didn't work right with DM 4.7.

I ended up running the loader.exe just as Tom did and all went well with the install.

....but what a PITA having to re-enter everything for 3rd party apps, just such a PITA! Docs to go is a great app, but it is probably the biggest pain and second in line would be jive talk.

.185 loaded much more smoothly.

The few things I notice about .190, no WiFi connection until I resent the service books and then it takes longer than .167 or .185 to obtain a WiFi connection....that blows, and the scanning of the media card is much slower.

The "application update available" box is also a pain, because there isn't anything to update but it's saying language support is available, but when you click to update there is nothing to update.

I don't know yet, I'll give it the rest of the day to play around with, but I may be reverting back to .185.

Taomyn 11-23-2008 02:15 PM

Upgraded from .185 which had unreliable BES connection and extremely poor battery life - .190 is the best so far for me 2nd after .166, BES is behaving, battery life is back to the same I had with .162

Unless I find a big issue or RIM produce an extraordinary new firmware next, this one's a keeper.

DSS597 11-23-2008 05:16 PM

I just did the upgrade to .190 OS. I re-registered on the network, resent the service books, did a battery pull, and a soft reboot; and for some reason I cannot receive email, but I can send email from the device.

I also can't get my regular web browser only the MediaNet one. SMS, MMS, and phone calls work just fine. Anybody?

Just got off the phone with AT&T, and they're saying they have an intermittent outage that started yesterday. ETA to fix is 48 hours.

Ok...I am prepared to uninstall DTM 4.7 and load 4.6 again. I have .190 all downloaded and ready to open up to my PC desktop when it's time...and all I'm waiting for is for some feedback on whether it's really beneficial to go from the .185 version I am very happy with now...to the new .190.

I mean, it's kind of a PITA and a long wait to do if there's nothing any better with .190 than .185...ya know?;-)

Can anybody comment?

There's nothing to wait for. Just upgrade so you have the current version of the device software.

I have noticed that there have been delays (up to 15 mins) in getting emails from my gmail account. Changed from 3G to GPRS and then the emails started to come through instantly.

davistld01 11-23-2008 08:37 PM

Just updated to .190, and initially the OS felt quicker, smoother...and I liked it.

But...now I notice that my thumbnail pics in my picture folder won't display!! Has anybody else gotten this bug? How can it be repaired? Can it?

I get this too. HOWEVER, try scrolling over the thumbnails. When I scroll, it populates all of the thumbnails.

You need to resend the service books. Again, you have to resend the service books!

DSS597 11-23-2008 10:47 PM

Read my original post. That has been done several times. I've even downgraded back down to .167 and it's still not working.

Can I delete all of the service books on the device and then try to resend them?

babsblackberry 11-23-2008 11:21 PM

Was kind of frustrating. Push email was extremely slow (well anything is slower than when you are use to the emails coming through immediately). Funny that it was fixed by just changing from 3G to GPRS. Everything is back to normal again, however I am seriously considering downgrading. I'm in Sydney, Australia with the Optus network.

Magnum 11-23-2008 11:31 PM

DSS597,

I read your post, but you said no email, no WiFi and no internet browser [only WAP].....this, to me, means the service books did not get sent down correctly OR after you sent the service books you tried to reload an old backup file.

You can delete all the service books from the handheld if you want, but I would just push them down directly from the BIS site and see what happens.

DSS597 11-24-2008 12:03 AM

Well I'm dead in the water now. I did a complete wipe of the device with OS .167, resent the service books and they never came. For some reason my Bold just doesn't want to receive data, though everything else seems to work. I think I have a defective Bold. I had tech support on the line, and everything is provisioned properly. Everything was working fine yesterday, it literally changed out of nowhere.

I'm going into AT&T tomorrow to grab another unit.

I don't believe that upgrading to .185 on Friday, and then .190 on Saturday had anything to do with "frying" this Bold, but at least I'm putting this post on the record should it happen to someone else. We have been hearing others saying that their email has stopped as well. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Thanks Magnum.

CoDudette 11-24-2008 04:43 AM

well, i'm keeping both on my computer. i'll try .185 first, and then .190, if it doesn't work. :) thanks guys!

asteele 11-24-2008 05:19 AM

Had a full business day of using .190 and it has worked perfectly fine for me... :)

BeDoell 11-24-2008 06:31 AM

I had .185 before, always restart if I turn on the wifi, now I am with .190; this one is much better in; battery long live, faster booting and multitasking.
The only things bugs me is after you composed a new email its always go back to the main message folder, thats the only things that I dont like

All the advice you've read here, and you ignore it?

Hey guys,

I have just received my 1st ever Blackberry, so sorry if these questions may seem silly but my 'options-->about' screen says I have the following 'v4.6.0.126 (Platform 4.0.0.135)'

Is the first number the OS & the second the firmware?

Also can I upgrade straight to .190 without upgrading to those inbetween?

Thanks all & for bearing with me :)

davistld01 11-24-2008 07:55 AM

A member over at Howardforums said that the reason so many are having issues with their thumbnail pics not being displayed is because they are saved to device memory and not a memory card...but that shouldn't make any difference. Memory is memory...if you have plenty, you have plenty.

This, and other negative "features" of the .190 version are bugs pure and simple. The .190 beta had widespread issues...and apparently this "official" version will too.

Oh well...

mas90guru 11-24-2008 08:01 AM

I updated from the stock BB Bold (AT&T) straight to 190 without any issues and am receiving Google Email as push with no lag.

jakontil 11-24-2008 08:36 AM

i have the 190 beta installed and may be i'd wait for the next release though

akc786 11-24-2008 10:10 AM

.190 is the best version so far.

uberlawyer 11-24-2008 10:54 AM

Just a quick hello to everyone as this is my first post!

Back on the subject at hand, I have updated from .185 and everything went perfect (on DM 4.7, used the Loader.exe just to avoid any mishaps).

I have noticed, however, that there is a slight calendar issue. I have birthdays associated with some of my contacts, and I noticed that the calendar reminders for all birthdays have been advanced by one (1) day, e.g. if the birthday was 12/24, the reminder would be 12/23. Everything was fine prior to the update. I'm using the Bold Today Plus theme, if that makes any difference.

Any thoughts on that? Has anyone experienced anything similar or can corroborate this?

JSanders 11-24-2008 11:00 AM

Welcome to the BBForums.

The theme should not make a difference, but have seen the all day event calendar stuff messed up when syncing with Outlook. Did you sync to Outlook?

JSanders 11-24-2008 11:02 AM

Welcome.

Use the first number, ignore the second.

Yes, you can.

uberlawyer 11-24-2008 11:09 AM

I did indeed sync with Outlook just before starting the upgrade process, as a precaution to avoid loosing my contacts (the rest is pretty much recoverable).

I have done so because after upgrading to .185 whenever I would do a backup the process would stop with an error and I feared it might happen the same during the backup made during the update (which it didn't actually, just went smoothly).

K, so this might explain it. Thanks for the quick reply! Anyway, people who rely heavily on the calendar should check post-upgrade just to make sure that there are no issues.

Streaming problem with .190?

Upgraded my at&t bold to .190 today. Everything seems to work fine, except now I cannot stream media over 3g (or the mobile network at all). Wifi streaming works fine. Over 3g, the media player pops up, and displays "Loading..." in the green box at the top right of the screen. Eventually gives up with the message "Wireless network connection disconnected. Verify connection settings." Anybody else seeing this? Any ideas how to fix?

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000)

I've been running the beta now for almost 3 weeks and not had a bug cept for the thumbnail not showing up when saved to device memory.

kenv 11-24-2008 01:43 PM

From what I've read here so far there seems to be mixed reviews on 190 versus 185, at least--some improvements, some problems. My guess is that BB will be coming out with a newer version soon, and maybe it makes sense to wait for this upgrade, considering all that you have to go through in every upgrade.

My 185 works quite well--there is reasonable, not great, battery life, running all three, BT, Wi-Fi and 3G, at the same time, and no bugs (for me).

Just my take on it.

datboi305 11-24-2008 05:22 PM

Thankyou Sir (y)

So I'm on .126, looks like i've got a little way to go :)

briuhn 11-24-2008 08:37 PM

since upgrading to .190 this afternoon, it does not let me play movies, .3gp videos in attachments. It was working perfectly on the ATT out of the store Bold, but now it gives me the error" this type cannot be played on your device"

ANY IDEAS!? i don't wanna downgrade because I'm enjoying the increased battery life and browser speed

am i missing any attachment handlers??

JosieGrossie 11-24-2008 09:45 PM

Argh, any fixes on the thumbnail issue? That seems to be my only problem now that I've upgraded. Everything else is working smoothly.

The inability to view my thumbnail pics cut it for me...and I downgraded back to .185 and have had no issues at all. I'm staying put until an official upgrade comes down the pike that is really an improvement.

Some say that this problem only occurs to those that aren't using a memory card to store pictures on...and are instead utilizing device memory only. I don't have a memory card yet, but even so it doesn't make sense that .185 would allow me to see my thumbnails and .190 won't...

I was about to post about this, but decided to search first. Glad to hear I'm not the only one having issues.

It not allow to download from China's IP

Harry Madan 11-25-2008 02:07 AM

hey guys,
i'm new to this form too... just been doing a lot of reading and not much posting...
Rogers in canada just launched the .162 about 2 months ago, and the bb has been working really really well. but from the knowledge gained from this site, it feels like rogers is way tooo far behind... since i'm new to the form and dont know much about BB plz dont take offense to anything i say.

there is lot of info between the .185 and .190. It seems like the only constant problem with the .190 is the "Thumbnails", but i wonder what is it that the other users are doing to see some problems that others dont, ie video streaming, e-mail delays, wi-fi problems and so on. What is it that you are doing different compare to other that are running .190 without any problems. Is it because u are in different areas, or different way of installing is what is causing the difference in the .190 running well or not.

just a thought...

tag824 11-25-2008 04:07 AM

I too have the thumbnail issue. I tried everything to get it to work. Removed the battery, removed the pics and put them back on, etc. Still doesn't show thumbnails. It's not a deal breaker for me so I'm sticking with .190 until a new ver. comes out. Until then it's just an annoyance... sigh

xkylar 11-25-2008 06:26 AM

I just installed the .190 and during the process i lost texas hold'em king 2 when I upgraded. I looked for the alx and the cod and i found it. I tried adding it but it's giving me the error of no other application found on your device when i load the alx. Any ideas?

simplemind 11-25-2008 09:54 AM

Finally, don't know how, but using the loader.exe, was able to get .190 installed on my ATT branded unit (y)!

I think everything transferred, and yes Texas Hold 'Em King 2 is there also.

Thanks to John, and all those that helped!

chadderbox 11-25-2008 04:42 PM

I've read a lot of posts from people saying they can't view thumbnails, but decided to give it a try anyway. So far, so good as I can view them still.

The issue that is driving me crazy is that MS Live doesn't work and just hangs!
