Yahoo IM for all providers...Now Available
|
the following carriers are listed as "supported" and available (for now) in English or Français
recommend installation via handheld browser, as nearly all RIM dls through desktop crash, burp or stall (the dreaded 12%!) Y! Messenger v 1.0.91 by Research In Motion, size 149384 interface looks identical to GoogleTalk, and as usual, Profiles has added tone settings - "Y!Messenger Alert" and "Y!Messenger New Message" sign in successful, but haven't chatted yet, nor recived Y!Mail, so the alert function is also unobserved. |
Alerts work well. Chatting back and forth is REAL quick - almost instant. It's as quick (sometimes seems quicker) than VeriChat and IM+ which I've also been testing.
So far I'm impressed. At first, I was disappointment that you couldn't use "predefined messages". BUT - they found a more elegant solution (IMHO). Instead of having to call up PDMs and then select from the list, the Yahoo Messenger uses the Blackberry's AUTOTEXT. So I can go define my own PDMs with shortcuts such as "bhs" = I'll be home soon...just leaving the office now." Then I don't have to call up a list, scroll, click, etc. Just type "bhs" and hit return. Sweet. All the YIM icons are supported as well and display on the BB (although they are not animated). Early testing indicates that since 99% of my contacts are on YIM, I likely won't be spending the $40 annual fee for VeriChat. (I will miss some of those bots, though). Still testing... |
It is fast. Faster than IM+ as well.
I've tried to move the Blocked Buddies below all other groups, but can't. It's annoying. Any ideas if it's possible? |
In options, just select not to show blocked buddies..

By all accounts, even with t-mo not being included on the list, it seems to work just fine. Also, t-mo has an established penchance for IM-via-SMS through their Oz transport. And given that t-mo's data allowances are the most forgiving of any carrier, I can't forsee their desire to officially support this. |

But when you click on the link and try to choose Cingular Wireless it tells you that it's not available for that carrier. Wierd - just plain wierd IMO.

Cingular just doesn't like the Blackberry. Its almost like they offer it because they have to but don't want to support it and want to rob people blind so they quit using it.

Hi everybody from italy! Just wanted to let you know that YM works perfectly on my 8700g with TIM. Excellent! Dan |
Just to make sure, yahoo messenger for bb uses data and now SMS right?
|
Anyone successful with Cingular & 8700c?
I got it installed fine (chose my carrier is not listed), but when I try and sign in, it says "Please visit www.blackberry.com/go/yahoo to activate your handheld for Yahoo! Messenger |
Here's a stupid question that probably gets a stupid answer.
I've got a 7250 with alltel. I don't have a data plan and I use the BIS to get mail. So does Y! IM work like the free BIS or do I have to have a data plan to get it working? |
Works great on Cellular One/Dobson 8700g
|
Cingy still no worky...Thanks Cingular! And so much for RIM branded AIM client in Q1! So sad...
|
Works just fine on T-Mobile on my 7290 (y)
Now if RIM can make this same thing for MSN Messenger, I'll be really happy Quote:

Installed but no icons
Hi,
I have BB 8700g on T-Mobile and try to install the yahoo messenger. I tried to installl it both from browser and desktop mgr. Both says that the installation is successful, however the icon is not there. However option/advance options/application shows that yahoo messenger is installed. Any pointers? I'm running OS 4.1.0.284 with Zen theme enabled. Thanks. |
Works great on my 7130e from VZW!
|

now all i need is the ym button shortcuts for :bb: 7290 tmobile. thanks for the heads up guys :D |
It uses the BB's built-in autotext, so you can create any shortcuts you want!!
|
What I don't understand is why wasn't Cingular the first to enable Yahoo! Messenger? Yahoo! is owned my at&t.
|
Cingular's just begging me to port over to T-Mobile.
|
Ok, the reason is that cingular has not signed the licensing deal yet...so more waiting. I just switched back to t-mobile...reception sucks tho..
|
when i goto the site and install to download and install it threw blackberry.com sometimes it'll stop at 12% or if it does install it wont let me click next. any one had this program?

Hello,
Installation on BB 7290 works perfectly. I have a question: the 'idle' feature is enable on it? It could be very useful. Thanks |
Does this Y! for BB use Data or SMS for it's IM?
Sorry if this has been asked/answered already, but I've not been able to find it via a search here.
Thanks for your responses! -M |

Cingular hasn't released the service book for Yahoo yet.... That's why it gives you that message.
|
Another Cingular user - I can't even get it to install. I just keep getting an error message
|
Ahhh, happily using YM on my 8700c.
I'm so glad I switched to T-Mobile..... |
if cingular does the HSDPA firmware update for the 8700 will you be glad? :)

Cingular hasn't even gone to BIS 2.0, or released a .284 version of software. What makes you think Cingular will bust out a HSPDA firmware update anytime this year? Cingular treats its Berry customers like lepers, they'd have to do a lot of changing before I'd ever consider going back. |
