BB Enterprise activation on simulator

Hi all
I'm BES administrator. Sometimes for troubleshooting I need Blackberry device but there is no way to get it now. So I decided to use BB simulator for that. Simulator version used is 9530.
I followed KB article DB-00049

It's written there as soon as I turn on "USB Cable connect" Enterprise activation will be done via Desktop manager. But nothing happened. Moreover the question appears how can Desktop manager know my address and where the BES is if I'm located outside of BES (and Exchange) local network so there is no way to connect to the server directly.

I tried to run Enterprise Activation on the simulator. However it requested to turn radio on for this. I did it but nothing happened.

Also I noticed in Device Manager it tries to connect to the host activationBBR.mycompany.com:4101. I always thought BB device communicates to BES only via RIM servers. Do I miss anything?

Thank you for any advise

I don't think you can enterprise activate on a simulator. Also activating via Desktop Manager is not "enterprise activation", it's what they called wired enabling of the handheld.

That's always my impression from start, unless someone tells me otherwise...

You can EA with wired via DM.
Thats how we used to do it, until I whitlisted RIM IPs on my spam filter.

I have syncronized the simulator for training and used it many times on an overheard projector using a laptop but its been two years and now I am searching on how I did it. It worked awesome.

Activations over WLAN bypass the RIM infrastructure and communicate directly with your Blackberry Router on port 4101. Your BB router then sends the activation message to a mail server you define.

I guess that's what the simulater is trying to do.
