Trying to unlock Verizon Storm- No valid sim error

Question about an issue that came up while trying to unlock the phone.

i called verizon and got the unlock code from them. They tried to walk me through it but my phone keeps giving the error "no valid sim" when I look up the sim in the options menu.

I tried removing and reinstalling along with numerous battery pulls.

Tried putting an old t-mobile sim in it just to see if the reader was working, and it was. It asked for a code for that sim.. so i know it was detected.

Any ideas? Is it a faulty SIM card? Guy at verizon told me to try someone elses verizon sim card, or buy a new one. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of people with verizon have sim cards in their phones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, Verizon is a CDMA network, who don't use sim cards.
The GSM part of the device (the sim card part) can be unlocked to be used with a different gsm network.

The Verizon "world phones" do have Verizon branded SIM cards, which is how they work on GSM networks when they are not on CDMA.

Oh ok, makes sense.

I have an unlocked 9530 for at&t, I had the same error when I'd try to load the sim card but everything else works, calls, internet, emails, mms, txt, etc. I went to at&t and had them give me a new card, same issue. The carriers have machines that can read your sim card. They can most likely remove the contacts from your sim and load to the phone and give you an active sim. Once this is done, I recommend syncing your phone with outlook to backup the contacts! Lost a few numbers when I didn't do that.

so I tightened the screws on the back a little bit and voila, it works. Phone is now unlocked. Guess if they get too loose that the sim reader loses contact inside the phone... although that doesnt explain it detecting a t-mobile card in my phone
