TomTom GO 720 & BlackBerry Curve 8300

Hello there,

I have looked through the search and was unable to find anything related to pairing a Curve to a TomTom (I saw other devices but not the Curve), so I'm wondering if anyone has been able to pair this?

I have paired my Curve with my TomTom however I am that's for voice calls only. I am still unable to utilize the Curve to connect to data services.

Anyone had any luck with pairing a TomTom to a Curve 8300?

Thanks,
--Phil

Curve 8310

I've had no luck pairing the 8310 with a TomTom go 720 for data. The 8100 is listed as supported by TomTom but the 8300 is not.:x

Interesting thread guys. I'm seriously looking at a Garmin 660 (nuvi). for me to just have hands free for incomming calls is a major bonus.

But I am curious about "data" transfer. Are we talking about using the BB to update maps or is there more to this equation.?

pls 'splain to me..?

thanx,

stk

BB with TomTom

The TomTom can use a data connection for receiving traffic info and a few other functions.

OK: The Garmin (nuvi 660), I am looking at buying uses an FM TMC receiver that would be totally independant of the BB...? (at least from the way I read it, it should be.). Independant / integrated antenna, Garmin connection and 12V plug.

thank you,

stk

As info, RDS-TMC services are not available in Calgary at this time. Currently RDS-TMC services are only available in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

What's the technical difference between the 8100 and 8300? Why would the 8100 work with a TomTom but not the 8300?

I think this is more to do with OS versions.

The 8100 only worked when using OS 4.2.1.66, however the I don't believe this release was a vailable for the Curve, so this is probably why it doesn't on the Curve.

I can vouch that every version of 4.3 that I have run on my 8120 has had no problems with TomTom Plus services

Pairing 720 and 8300

I have successfully paired my TomTom and Curve. It is tricky in that you have to enable "visibility" of your Curve. Once you do that - in settings, you should pair with no problem. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to handle Traffic - TomTom seems to only recognize the 8100 so it seems not to connect via edge with is a necessity.

Hope that helps.

I own a BB 8310 and have had no issues connecting to the TomTom 720 for handsfree use. So I am happy with that. I cannot get it to connect for wireless data, either automatically or manually. I went back through the TomTom and connected via blutooth to my phone and it searched for phone features. What it found was: handsfree, phone book, and wireless data. So it knows the feature is there but for some reason it won't accept the connection. Is there anything Rogers or BB can do to enable this feature?

Same problem.. BB8700, TomTom 920T and it sees the phone and says it has recognized features for Hands Free, Phone book, and Wireless Data.. But the Data won't work.. I can sync my phonebook and use it for hands free, but no data.. (Weather, traffic and such..)

I also have the 8120 with T-Mobile, and I have not been able to get my TomTom go 720 to pair for use with the Plus services. It paired just fine for the phone. Any suggestions from those who were able to pair? I am using ver 4.3. thanks

Compatibility

I just checked the Tom Tom compatibility page. The AT&T Blackberry Curve (8300 Series) is listed as supporting only handsfree with the Tom Tom Go 720

Hi,

I successfully got my Blackberry Curve (8310) and my TomTom 930 linked for both voice *and* data.

I had to upgrade the OS on my curve.

I'm too junior to post links, but search in Blackberry forums for "getting tomotom 910 work curve"

Cheers
Steve

Steve, a little more information would be useful.

Whick version of the OS are you now using, where did you get from, any settings you had to change?

Thanks for your help

Ian

To setup:

When asked by TomTom setup manually.
Enter wap.voicestream.com
Leave username and password blank
Default for number dialed

This works for T-Mobile. I just used it perform the data service setup. Make sure you are on the EDGE network not UMA.

I have a version 4.5 OS on my 8120, and was finally able to configure the connection to my tomtom one. But I can't get it to connect to the plus services after the initial set-up.

TomTom GO 930 Wireless Data and Curve 8320

I too had this problem with TomTom GO 930 and wireless data connection to a Blackberry 8320 Curve. After a lot of research on different sites I consolidated the results to achieve success.

On the phone do the following:

First update the OS to 4.5.0.52
In Manage Connections goto Mobile Network Options and set the Connection Preference to Wi-Fi Preferred.

On TomTom GO 930

Go to setup Wireless Data and when prompted for the phone select the "OTHER" button at the bottom left. Then select the country and your provider (T-Mobile (III) for me). This will fail and then you will be asked if you want to set up "other" or "manually". Select MANUAL

Set the network to wap.voicestream.com
User: Leave this blank
Password: Leave this blank

Accept the defaults for other 2 settings
You will then be asked 2 more questions select Automatic for both.
TomTom will ask more questions say yes and "Voila"
