OS: 8130 4.5.0.188/4.5.0.131 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8130 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.188 (Multilanguage)

This is from Sprint, but will load to ANY 8130 by following the instructions below.

Package Version: 4.5.0.188
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.131
* Software Platform: 3.4.0.25
* File name: 8130uAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel188_PL3.4.0.25_A4.5.0.131_Sp rint.exe
* File size: 87.13MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8130:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

How is this Sprint's latest version? I checked online at their website sprint.com/downloads/ and it still lists 4.3 software.

I noticed that too. It is Sprint branded, however. It literally JUST came out on BlackBerry's site so the Sprint Software Download site may not be updated yet.

Ehh, in any case, I can't wait to get home and install it. It's been quite a while since there's been a new release for the 8130. Sigh, another 2.5 hours at work.

Sonkway, have you noticed any significant changes? My phone memory fluctuates so much.

Actually, it's still loading at the moment, so I'll have to let you know when it's done!

Sonkway, once you install it can you confirm if this gives the Pearl 8130 MMS capabilities? Thanks!

matt1002 02-04-2009 08:49 PM

I installed it on my Cellular South 8130 and I haven't really seen any new features.. All looks the same to me.. It seems to be running smoother.

MMS did not come in the OS per se, but with service books, it is now working. Resent service books and now have MMS capability.

Options>Advanced Options>Host Routing Table>Register Now

Haven't noticed much different than 4.5.0.89 other than memory being more stable.

Finally, Sprint gave us Blackberry users MMS, now what do I have to complain about?

Oh yeah, CSR's...

OMG, MMS? Is that the first time we've seen the words "sprint" and "mms" together without a "no" or "does not have?" I work at a retail sprint store so I must say, yes, CSR's really blow.

Lol, I let my wife handle CSR's, she has a way with words...

I am very excited to install this and resend my service books

artie 02-05-2009 12:29 AM

I finished installing it on my Sprint 8130 at 5pm California time and it works great.
It backed everything up first and installed everything except my “Address book” and ” Calendar”, and “Tasks”. When I open the Desktop Manager with the device pluged in, I get a message “Failed to conect to device. Please make sure that the device is properly connected and try again”.
The Desktop Manager shows my “pin number”, but when I open “backup” an ERROR: There was a communication error between the device and the Desktop Manager”. (4.7)
Any help would be appreciated; I have about 300 contacts that need to be installed in the device.

lanevovirs 02-05-2009 12:34 AM

I just finished installing and tested MMS. IT WORKED! I just installed and then sent the service books right after. My contacts and everything loaded up like normal. Thanks, Sonkway!

I also noticed that it lists "Wireless Update" under Advanced Options. I wonder what that's for!

Redflea 02-05-2009 01:21 AM

Yay...I thought we were never going to see a 4.5 update after .89 for CDMA.

Hope this helps my current awful memory issues...I've developed a huge memory leak, takes my Pearl down to 1 MB and below regularly. :(

Try the usual trouble-shooting methods. Restart the PC, battery pull, remove and reinstall DM (you'll still keep your backups), try a different USB port, etc.; I'd start with reinstalling the Desktop Manager. Let us know if you get it working!

JSanders 02-05-2009 10:19 AM

Artie, make certain your USB cable is connected to the REAR USB ports on the PC, not a hub, front PC ports or a monitor port.

My memory has been pretty good with this version. Still a small leak, but nothing like the craziness I had with 4.5.0.97. AND NO SPEAKER BLAST! (sorry to yell, but I wanna shout from the rooftops, even though I didn't experience this all that often; it was rather annoying).

One thing I've noticed with this update is my web shortcuts no longer open the browser! I used them quite often so it's quite unfortunate. Still loads the page in the browser, but, now I have to click the shortcut to load the page and then the browser to actually open the browser.

I did not wipe and clean install with this OS so I will more than likely try that tonight.

kevinwska 02-05-2009 10:35 AM

Alright after some initial annoying trouble getting this installed on my PC I got it installed on my Pearl too and its amazing. It feels very quick and smooth; I saw a boost of memory when I first restarted and even after letting it fill the cache fill back up I still have more memory then when I started.
Best of all the option to send MMS is there! I haven't tried it yet as its not a feature I need all the time but its good to see my phone using its full capabilities.
