Reset ESN on BB 8230
 

I have a BB 8230 - Pearl Flip, and I used the JL-Cmder to format the handset. Since then my ESN has been wiped from the phone and Bell Canada is unable to correct the issue.

I need the ESN to be added back to the phone so that I can get Bell to set-up the phone again for service. Anyone know how to do this?

You can't wipe the ESN from the device.

Why do you think it was done so?

On the main screen I have a "Service Required" message. I read some posts about using JL-Cmdr to wipe the phone and start fresh. Now when I put in command ##000000, the ESN(dec) is showing as 00000000000 and the ESN (hex) is 0. This is also evident under Status in Options.
The Bell Canada rep has said he has never seen that before. It is a clean phone.
Any ideas?

"Service Required" or "Activation Required"?

I purchased it off someone local. I checked the ESN before I purchased it and it was clean. It worked for about 2 months and then I put a new battery in it last week. Once it turned on after the battery replacement, the "Service Required" message appeared on the screen.
It was recommended to use the JL-Cmder to remove everything from the device and reinstall the OS. Didn't work and the Bell rep said that he has never seen an ESN wiped from a device.

A "clean" ESN simply means that it works and is usable by your carrier.

Wiping the device with JLCmder won't remove an ESN.

Look at Options > Status. What is the ESN there?

That is where it is showing the ESN (dec): as 00000000000 and ESN (hex): as 0.

I purchased it off a guy who's company gave him a phone so he was selling his personal phone.

I saw one other posting online regarding the exact same issue, but unfortunately there were no posts on how to correct the issue.

The only thing I can think of is to get RIM to fix it, but at what cost? time? etc.

Out of curiosity, is your PIN showing as FFFFFFFF?

Nope... my PIN is correct - it remains the same.

Are you certain that no one has tried to use any other software to edit or remove the ESN from this device?

Nothing more than JLCmder was used? Anything like MFI Multiloader software?

Call me skeptical but I think there's a little more to the story than we are being told.

Is it possible that the person who sold you the device reported the device lost/stolen?

I called Bell. The phone was purchased from them, I have a copy of the receipt and has only been registered once with them. It was purchased in October. The ESN was clean - never reported lost or stolen. I purchased it off him a month ago and it worked until I replaced the battery at which point the "Service Required" message appeared. I then wiped the handset using the option under Security Settings, but still had the "Service Required" message. I then used JL_Cmder to wipe the entire handset and reinstalled the lastest OS. STill the message "Service Required" and the ESN is showing as 0's.
I didn't check the ESN prior to using JL_Cmder, so I can't confirm if it was showing as 0's prior to.
Any ideas?

Return the device to Bell for replacement.

Or ask the original owner to do so.

I have returned it to bell to have it fixed. Only out of a phone now for 6-8 weeks unless I want to pay for a loaner.

i too have encoutnered this very thing
 

i think its very unlikely this person is the same one i heard frm lately on ebay for instance a fella was saying he never encoutnered it before nor did the phone carrier anyway same hting 0000 esn was wiped off the phone.. i know wild but is true.. he had no idea what to do either. rim should take it back or soemone who knows how to play with programming on these devices. nto easy soemtimes but doable...
