AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
2 months ago I purchase BB9900 OEM. Operated on AT&T 3G network without issue. Today, AT&T released BB9900 on their network and 4G access in available areas. AT&T advises the specific area I am in is H+ currently. The AT&T locked phone displays H+ for the network. My OEM only displays 3G. AT&T confirmed my phone is programmed in their system so as to access the 3G/H+ or 4G networks. The guess is that because my phone does not have AT&T OS it will not display the H+ icon. They further guess that if any when I enter a 4G area the phone will access the 4G network. AT&T suspects that my phone is accessing the network via H+ but absent the AT&T OS the H+ icon is not available for display. Can anyone confirm or otherwise comment with any degree of certainty?

It's just cosmetic. Some carriers have chosen to display H+. Some have not.

Actually it's not just cosmetic. I just spoke with BB Tech Support and the 4G service books are not on the OEM version. I don't have a4G option. They recommended downloading the AT&T OS.

I don't think you will see 4G, H+ is what will be displayed. At least that is what I get on my 9810 in a 4G area.
What theme are you using? That might be part of the display problem. |

Interesting. Didn't think any of the new BBs were to be 4G.

My T-Mobile 9900 is 4G and shows 4G...

Re: AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
If you have a T-Mobile or now AT&T phone it will display 4G if you're in a 4G area (I presume Verizon will also). The problem I have is that the OEM phone doesn't have a 4G option in the software. The phone needs the 4G Service Books and/or the specific carriers OS. Therefore, it appears I will need to wipe out the OS and load the AT&T OS; unless someone has another idea?

Re: AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
The OS has nothing to do with the service books your receive...

Re: AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
well let's be serious, no blackberry is real 4G. H+ is a marketing ploy and, as everyone knows, nothing more than a slightly improved 3G.

It's 3.000001G Same old story, different font/text...LOL

Re: AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
If 4G is not dependent on the service books and/or OS then why is 4G not even an option under mobile settings?

Re: AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
I got my AT&T Bold 9900 from an AT&T store tonight and it shows 4G.

Re: AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
Exactly my point. The AT&T phone has their OS which allows for 4G.

Here is a thread from September when I got an unlocked 9900. http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-9900-att.html
It seems that we are running H+ or 4G lite just not showing it in the display. |
Re: AT&T Bold 9900 3G/H+/4G
Again, it's cosmetic.

Ready to close this thread. The OEM 9900 turned out to be 3G capable only. I just obtained a AT&T BB9900 and the 4G displays and there's a noticeable speed difference.
