Old School but still cool?-8120

Hello this is my first post here,

I was wondering if the 8120 is worthwhile in terms of the WiFi and other changes compared to the 8100. I am thinking about getting one for my wife and was hoping she could use the WiFi for data w/o a data plan when a network connection is available.

I currently have the 8100.

It appears they are going for less than $100...

Any input is appreciated

Thanks, SS.

If you are planning on using the device on AT&T, they will automatically add a data plan to any BlackBerry activated on their network after September 2009.

You will not be able to use Wifi data without a data plan on ATT. None of the third party apps will work and there is a possibility that the browser will not either.

I put my sim in my bb8100 w/o data plan and no data plan was added but I guess that doesn't constitute activation. So basically adding a sim to an unlocked Tmobile 8120 the wifi is worthless, w/o data plan on the ATT network. Lame...

Thanks for the replies, SS.

I wouldn't considering I've bought a few 8900 curves for <75$ & 83xx curves for <50$ shipped [to me in canada].

One of our retailers was clearing these out Brand-new for <50$ CAD a year and a half ago... So i wouldn't say they're worth nearly 100$

Plus the build in my experience on the 8120, wasn't as 'solid' as the ones on the original 8100's. The keyboard and phone felt flimsier. And well, a full qwerty keyboard is much better anyways ;)
