bis over wifi prohibited
Hi all,
I have a small problem - "BIS over wifi" is not officially supported by carriers in Russia. It's worked some time ago but not now. But the same time, a very small qnt of bb users still gets it working. For me it's mean, that prohibition is not on the RIM servers, but in carrier's. So, the question, is it possible to solve this? Of course, I have BB plan and working BIS-B over mobile network. Some additional info: In the HRT I have 4 lines: GPRS RU WI-FI [60] GPRS RU GPRS RU In the WI-FI [60] I have 4 lines: rcp.eu.blackberry.com:443 rcp.eu.blackberry.com:443 93.186.25.40:443 193.109.81.88:443 In the SB section I have 2 WIFI lines: Brower config with GW: IP://206.51.26.197:19989:19998 and WPTCP with GW: IP://10.1.26.207:19781;19780 (if WIFI is not connected, this field is blank) In the WIFI Diagnostic I have no IP addresses yet and red cross In the engineering menu, TMM Tunnel Engineering screen I have 2 tunnels: 1. 3GPP:blackberry.net<10.250.31.198> 2. WLAN <192.168.1.100> (it's IP address which bb got from wifi router via dhcp) Any help will be appreciate! Regards, Andrey |
Re: bis over wifi prohibited
If you don't have the WiFI service book, I doubt there is much you can do.
Does the BB find and recognize the WiFI router? |

So, download and install any OS to your PC. Go to program files, common files, research in motion, apploader Delete the Vendor.xml in that folder Backup your BB using desktop manager And run the Loader.exe file in the same Apploader folder to install the "Clean" OS (with no carrier functionality restrictions now) That's it. Re: bis over wifi prohibited
Really? REALLY?
Nonsense. Removing Vendor.XML simply allows you to load an OS that was not branded for the original vendor of your BlackBerry. It doesn't install a "Clean OS". |

I can connect to the WIFI router, browsing internet, use Facebook for example. But can't connect to BB services - no emails, google talk & etc. So there are no BB sign right to the WIFI sign. I can connect to RIM's servers via https from PC, connected to the same WIFI router. It looks like my phone don't have route to the RIM services via WIFI. |
Re: bis over wifi prohibited
Some more info:
I have 2 records in the IT policy: BBFS1 [GTALKEU1] (AES) Wi-Fi TCP/IP Transport [S TCP-WiFi] in the device, where bis over wifi is working, there is no second line! Unfortunately, it doesn't help. After factory reset and restore from backup this line disappeared, but bis over wifi still not works. |

However, this sounds like a carrier and not a device limitation... |

Re: bis over wifi prohibited
Nope. If your carrier is blocking BIS over WiFi you're probably not getting the service books to use it.

So the solution isn't in tweaking the phone, it would be changing/adding the service book via provisioning. Rereading your original post and comparing yours to mine I would think the block has to do with rcp.eu.blackberry.com:443. Mines goes to rcp2.us.... I connect to a US service while EU must mean Europe. So the block might be access to the RIM Europe gateway. Do you have access to the qnt few that has this working? Can you compare and see what is in their HRT. As a wild guess it sounds like they never received the updated service books which added the blocks to the rest of you. If that is so then once their phone re-registers they will get updated books and loose that functionality. |
Re: bis over wifi prohibited
Thanks for answer. It's really nice to hear that the problems are in service books only.
Is it correct, that there are only 2 service books for wifi. One of them is for browsing only another one (WPTCP) is a transport for other services? I checked WPTCP SB in Magicberry ipd editor. It shows only one ip address from 10.x.x.x network. Is it correct? HRT is very interesting for me. I can't get direct access to it, only see 4 rows one of them is for wifi. And this info I get from the carrier and can't change. I compared HRT with device where bis working - visually no difference. Is there some kind of debugger which can help me to understand why its not working? I have access to the engineering menu. Found there mobile network, wifi and tunnel sections. First two, I think is for tuning mobile or wifi network parameters, third one is more interesting. When I connected to the bb services, I have one 3gpp tunnel to the blackberry net. When I connected to the wifi network, I have one wifi tunnel but it shows me IP address of the tunnel is IP address which bb get from dhcp wifi router. Moreover, I can add there more 3gpp tunnel but no wifi. And maybe more interesting Q for me - is there are some hidden fields in the SB which are not showed in the magic berry or another ipd editor? What I tried to do at this moment is replaced WPTCP SB with another one, downloaded from AT&T. Not help Could you guys send me yours WPTCP service books which works with bis over wifi? Thanks in advance! Andrey |
Re: bis over wifi prohibited
Do you have a BB data plan? You should have more than 4 service books...

Re: bis over wifi prohibited
Of course I have. It's about 20 different servicebooks plus about 6 for all of my email accounts. Maybe problem is not in the WPTCP service book but in the another one? I mean, that maybe in the BIS servicebook (BIS Client ???) there are some rules which prohibit using wifi transport for talking with BIS servers?
I will try to get all SB's from working device and put it in mine. I have the following servicebooks (ex.emails) on my bb: BBFS1 [KEYNEGO] BFS1 [BBIM] BIS Client [BisClientConfig] BBFS1 [BBIMConfig] IPPP for 5 Click [IPPP] Wap Push Config [WAPPushConfig] Provisioning [PROVISIONING] Blackberry Internet Browsing Service [BrowserConfig] IPPP for BIBS [IPPP] MediaConfig [MediaConfig] LBS RC Prod ALL 63001 [LbsConfig] WLM 2.1 [BBIMConfig] ICQ - BBIM [BBIM] AIM- BBIM[BBIM] BBFS2 [BBIMConfig] Provisioning [OTASL] WAP Browser Config [BrowserConfig] WAP2 Transport [WPTCP] MMS Client [MMS] MTS MMS [WAP] WI-FI TCP/IP Browser [BrowserConfig] WI-FI TCP/IP Traansport [WPTCP] Which one may be interesting for me? |
