Desktop Software 7.1 - Blank screens!
 

First of all, is there a forum devoted to BB Desktop Software? I couldn't find one so I'm posting here.

I have installed and re-installed BDS 7.1 many times now - each with slight variations in the process (run as administrator,clean install, repair installation, you name it!) but always with the same result. The application gives me nothing but blank, white screens and yet hogs over 50% of system resources.

Desktop Manager v6 was working fine but auto-upgraded to v7.1 and has never worked since :cry:

There are a few posts out there (amazingly not BB forums) that talk to this problem but none of them have offered an effective solution for me.
My carrier (AT&T) can't help me. Blackberry tech support wants to charge me to fix what I can only view as a bug in the software.

Has anyone else come across this? Any suggestions?

What version of Windows are you using?

That version worked fine for me, but you should be able to download an older version and tell it not to auto-update.

Hmmmm... I have been trying to find a prior version for ages. V4.something was available but doesn't work/synch with Office 2010 and, of course, immediately wants to update to v7.1...
I have only found one place that really looked like it had BDM v6 (all the rest want to force a download of their own "download" or "PDF" software) but it wanted to charge me a ??monthly fee?? for the download!
I called BB support but they told me they no longer supply earlier versions.
I really feel like I'm in a Catch 22 scenario here and starting to think maybe "iPhone" is the answer... eeargh!!!
If you know a trustworthy site for v6, that would be great. Thanks for the help, though dc/dc...

Thanks stevetaz - actually, that's the site that I said wants a monthly fee. You have to look real close to discover you can actually download for free. Jeez.., it gets harder out there!!!

Now I'm in deep trouble! I just installed BDM v6.1 and it has exactly the same blank screen problem. Used to work on this machine but not any more!
I think I just have to give upon Blackberry, after all. This is way too hard!
