GPS on 8520??
Curve 8520 on Virgin (UK) v5.0.0.681
I'm fairly new to the BB 'experience' and loving it, 'specially BB Messenger, which I thought originally I would never use! Anyway, I downloaded Google maps and have used that successfully with it's limitations down to mast triangulation, but it's certainly good enough for town to town navigation .. Howevere, I also have a TomTom GPS receiver which I use with my laptop via bluetooth for when I'm off-roading and need better precision, within a few feet when possible, and that's the dilemma. I can pair the receiver with the BB, but the google app doesn't 'see' the gps signal, and nor does anything else I tried. Can someone advise if it's possible to use an external bluetooth GPS receiver with the 8520 or not? If it is, please offer a clue or step-by-step as to how to configure it to work. I've checked the FAQ's and previous posts, but nothing seems to apply, unless my search mojo is fubarr'd. :? Many thanks in anticipation. ;) |
Re: GPS on 8520??
Use our search feature and also check out the GPS and Maps section. You can use a GPS puck. But if you are going to do that, why not just buy a stand alone GPS unit? Prices have come down, has more features than most of the BB apps, including Google, and it doesn't rely on a cell signal and BB dataplan to get the map.

Re: GPS on 8520??
I am planning to have a Bluetooth TomTom gps receiver hard-wired into the Landrover (I built it in) to cut down on the number of 'things' I need to carry ... A lot of the time I don't carry the laptop or PDA with me, but will always have the Blackberry, hence the potential for using it. It's not to use in place of a TT but as an added 'thing' .. to play with mostly ;)
technically it should be possible, but I can't get it to work right now .. |

Heh .. sorted!
It was my lack of familiarity with Blackberry, it's all there in the options etc! I'll post a 'How-To' in the mapping forum. |
