Problems after fresh installation

Hello,

I have problems after installing BES Express on Win2k3 STD.
After installation of Exchange System Manager (Exchange2003 from SBS2003), copy of cdo.dll from server and setting up proper permissions on Domain Controller and BES I have problem with user Initialization.
After adding user it's status is not changing ... All the time "Initialization"

In logs I have such communicates after restart of BES server:

Strange...
In pane I see that SRP is connected ...

Aha and "Exchange 5.5 Administrator" dont see Exchange when trying to connect to ... Strange because Exchange System Manager see and has access to Exchange.

Do you have any idea what may be wrong???

I have generated activation password and nothing changed.
Following Getting Started Guide after setting Activation Password I should Assign device, but when trying to assign I have communicate that user is not yet known to BlackBerry Agent ...

EDIT: OK I jave found that I should activate from device, so I will try this at the morning, because now I'm at home and BES is in office ;)

Zro 01-23-2007 11:36 PM

if you have already set the activation password then you can do the activation wirelessly...just put your email address and the password you set into the enterprise activation icon on the handheld and away you go.

I have putet e-mail address and password for e-mail account. After some time appear comunicate that it cannot activae.
Te given password should be activation password or password for the account?

EDIT: Device says "The server is not responding. Please contact your System Administrator"
But I don't understand. Which server is not responding? Bes is behind NAT shoult there be forward on any port to bes or it says that it can not connect with Exchange ... ?

Domel 01-24-2007 05:28 AM

I have checked. BlackBerry service on provider side should be ok.
It don't want to activate ...

In logs I have:

Strange. There is no firewall on local machine. Only McAfee but I have turned off all options leaving only virus scanner ...
What else can be wrong ...?

MeastroM 01-24-2007 06:20 AM

Have you checked all the services are running correctly (especially the Blackberry Controller by the look of your log)? under the right account?

Did you install using a BESAdmin account?

-BalckBerry Attachment Service
-BalckBerry Controller
-BalckBerryDispatcher
-BalckBerry MDS Connection Service
-BalckBerry Policy Service
-BalckBerry Router
-BalckBerry Synchronization Service
Disabled:
-BalckBerry Database consistency Service

On which log I sholuld concentrate? There are 16 files with logs ...

For example I found such records in BES_CTRL_01_20070124_0001.txt:

Is there any BlackBerry Log parser?

I'm receiving mails from [email address]

Ok I have found what was wrong. Permissions :) When I have address bes to domain admins everything started :)

It looks like I'm very close to getting all of this to work. Wondering if anyone can tell me what might be wrong from the following log?

I read on an earlier post that I should probably check the server config wizard to see what mapi profile is being used. I can't do a wireless activation and a direct USB activation starts and then says the user has not been recognized yet and to try again later.

Domel 05-18-2007 09:58 AM

Most of the problems are caused by missing permission rules or mapi32.dll/cdo.dll wrong versions.
Are you sure that both are ok? Have you tried to add besadmin user to domain admins to check if this will solve the problem?

Are you sure that both are ok? Have you tried to add besadmin user to domain admins to check if this will solve the problem?

I'm sure it's a permissions thing and it'll probably be something so small, I'll feel like a dork when I figure it out...ha ha

I did check the cdo.dll and the one on the BES server was older so both match now. Thanks for the mapi.dll...I haven't checked that one yet but will!

I'll also add besadmin to domain admins and post back. Thanks again for the help!

Success! Darn mapi32.dll file! The versions didn't match and as soon as I uploaded the newer file and rebooted, it worked!

Thanks everyone! One last question... it seems like emails are a little slow in getting to my BB. Is there a setting I may be missing on the server? Messages seem to get to my desktop and then lag about a minute and a half before hitting my BB. When I was using a hosted BES, the email would hit desktop and BB about the same time. I know, what's a minute and a half but figure I'd check to see if there's something I'm missing.

For me it looks like BES may be slow - check BES performance. I had similar problem when server CPU was overloaded and mails ware send with delay.
In my BB i'm receiving mails 3 seconds earlier than on outlook connected to LAN ;)

Hmmm... it's a brand new Dell 1950 rack server, Dual Core Xeon 5050 3.0 GHz, 2GB RAM and RAID1 146GB drives. BES Express is the only thing loaded on it with just one user.

Nice. I have installed win2k3 with BES on workstation hardware which stands on servers room :D
Maybe connection to internet is slow or any firewall is slowing? Mails come through internet and RIM infrastructure ...
I don't have any other solutions in mind for now ...

No problem. Thanks Domel. I'll have to check out how the performance is over the next day or so. Maybe it's just an internet lagging kind of day or something in the SonicWall.
