about black berry data plan discussion
hello i am a black berry user specifically the edge 8220 flip smart phone. i wanted to use the wi-fi internet service but i cant because i don't think i have a data plan (i don't know where to check) and this thing costs money i live some where else and its not accessible for me to purchase the data plan. i have this logic i have a laptop and when ever there is a wi-fi in range it has no problem connecting no data plan stuff so i just want to know if i can connect to internet and surf as i wish with out a data plan. by the way i have no problem downloading stuff so if i need some applications i can get them thank you.

Re: about black berry data plan discussion
Depending on your carrier/cell service provider you may or may not have the service books to use wifi.
Go to Options > Advanced > Service Books -- what do you see listed under there? Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |
Re: about black berry data plan discussion
there are two lists both are tick marked and it looks like this:
(tick mark) Wi-Fi TCP/IP Browser[BrowserConfig] (tick mark) Wi-Fi TCP/IP Transport [WPTCP] |
Re: about black berry data plan discussion
So it sounds like you have the service books for wifi. If you connect to a wifi network through your phone, I don't believe you will be charged. Of course, the final word is always with your carrier. You can always try it out, check with them to see if you got charged anything before continuing to use it more.

so there is a small chance that i can use the wi-fi with out paying at all. that's good news.

Re: about black berry data plan discussion
It's possible. I'm speaking from potentially out-dated information. When I first got my Blackberry, I didn't have a data plan yet. I did have the wifi service books, so I could connect to a wifi network at home. Was able to browser, install certain (non-RIM) apps. Never charged for data.
