Torch 9810 OS7.1-3UK on a Virgin phone?

Hi guys,
Keen to get my new Torch 9810 up and running. Just bought a used 9810 (Virgin) to replace my 9800. Everything transferred across but now I want 7.1 and it's juicy features!

Slight problem, my carrier is 3UK and the handset is Virgin. I'm happy to use the genuine 3UK version of 7.1 Therefore downloaded to PC.

Desktop manager says my device is up to date, when I select an alternative update, my 3UK 7.1 is there but I cannot install, error message says something about not having a valid BIS account (which I do).

Tried deleting both vendor files before update but no joy. Just want to install my carriers software......

All help much appreciated!

You really don't need your carrier's software as the OS will run and RIM makes it as carrier independent.

Does your carrier support the frequency bands that are in your BB? And does the carrier support OS 7.1? You need to know those answers.

Hi,

Sim/carrier carrier will run 7.1 and the frequency bands all fine. Using the sim in the unlocked virgin phone now. 3UK have their own 7.1 download on their site. Are you suggesting that RIM have released a generic carrier independent 7.1? If so where please?.....

Many thanks.

No. No one has ever suggested that. They all come through the carriers. There is no generic software. Use the latest available one. It will work fine.

Follow the instructions posted in the 9800 Section and it will update fine.
