OS: 8530 5.0.0.1108/5.0.0.654 (Multilanguage)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1108 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1108
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.654
* Software Platform: 4.2.0.298
* File name: 8530AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel1108_PL4.2.0.298_A5.0.0.654_S print_L.P.exe
* File size: 102.11MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's device:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device

Thanks, I eventually found it. :-/ Usually the newest is the first one listed.

P.S. I assume you meant that jokingly. Otherwise, you're an a$$.

Any body notice any differences between this new one and 5.0.0.601?

RUFFSTUFF 05-30-2010 07:54 PM

I gave it a chance for a few days and then I went back to .459... the new update sucks, I would rather they not reduce reception to improve battery life...

Care to elaborate? "The new update sucks" doesn't help those of us that have yet to update, and your comment about them reducing reception for battery life...is that a verified change or something you think you noticed and assumed was caused by the update?

If you look around here and the other blackberry sites there are plenty of reports on the .654 update. I summarized them as "the new update sucks," and left it at that. You could always go outside the box and see for yourself! ;-

Admittedly I have not searched for issues, but I don't see any compelling reason not to update. For me, 5.0.0.508 was the best OS. It seems to have the best battery life on my device. 5.0.0.654 is running fine for me though--battery life is better than the last one (.601?) but not quite as good as .508. Overall, reception is not the best on my 8530 regardless of the OS. The meter does a lot of jumping around (e.g. from no bars to three bars).

If you like the key-lock features the way they are, then you will not like the .654 update.
If you like the ability to manually put the phone into standby, then you will not like the .654 update.
If you are in an area where your reception is already not that good, you will not like the .654 update.
If your phone always dies about 15min before you can get to a charger, then you will like the .654 update.
If you always have to have the newest, latest and greatest even if you don't understand what exactly is so new, late and great, then you will like the .654 update.

What exactly changed with the key-lock? Last update they removed the lock icon from the icon list, and made it so the top media key locks and unlocks the phone. Did they change this again to something else?
