How do you get pics on your BB? What format do they have to be in?

bfrye 09-15-2004 01:26 PM

I think they take jpeg, gif and png...

morganc14 09-15-2004 01:51 PM

How would you get them on the device?

bfrye 09-15-2004 01:57 PM

If you have BES, email them to yourself as an attachment..

Is this possible on 4.0 already? Won't your SP have to upgrade on their side too. Is it possible at all or do you still need Email Viewer.

I'm on my companies BES and just tried emailing myself a .jpeg. I couldn't open the attachement, no option to do that.

morganc14 09-15-2004 02:42 PM

Same response here. Gives no option to open attachment and I'm also not on BES.

bfrye 09-15-2004 04:52 PM

Not sure then, I don't have BES, so I'm going on memory on what BES supports. I posted a link to a screensaver in another thread, you can compile images into the screensaver and then install them on the BB. That's the only other way I can think of off the top of my head.

kirson 09-15-2004 05:20 PM

if you have 4.0, you can go onto a webpage with pictures, go into SELECT mode, highlight the picture, and select SAVE. Then you can view the picture in the Pictures application, and also use it as a home screen or standby screen.

If you have 3.7.1.41 you can use the application developed by Klaus Thiele, and with a bit of tweeking, put your own images on the device.

If you are not that adept at mumbo-jumbo-techno-geek stuff, take a look at Terratial.com -- they have a few interesting solutions (at reasonable prices).

jeremy 09-15-2004 05:23 PM

Where can this be found?

The application can be downloaded from

http://213.68.178.231/RIM/screensaved_0.5.4.zip

Be sure to read the ReadMe file. There have been HUNDREDS of posts on how to get it to work if you are having problems -- feel free to ask questions...people will either respond, or point you in the right direction.

Thanks very much

The screensaver should be submitted to BlackberryClub if it hasn't already!

OK, let's take a step back -- what exactly have you done, and when exactly are you getting this error? What handheld do you have? And what version of the handheld operating system are you using?

This can be a pretty elaborate process, but it is well worth it in the end. I had fun with this for weeks!

morganc14 09-16-2004 05:31 AM

Well, I'm on a 4.0 7230 and just tried to download this file. http://213.68.178.231/RIM/screensaved_0.5.4.zip I keep getting an entity too large error and even on the blackberry forum and other sites I've been getting 404,406, and 500 errors and have to back out of browsing.

Are trying to install the app OTA? This does not work. You have to download the zip file and install the app using BB Desktop Manager or javaloader.exe.

morganc14 09-16-2004 05:43 AM

Okay, let me give this a shot.

morganc14 09-16-2004 08:50 AM

Well, most of the apps that I open or unzip for the BB are automatically loaded into the App loader in MAnager. This is not happeneing. Suggestions!
