problem is I can get a UMA signal with my home wireless network but not at the office.

Your office may not allow this type of traffic through their corporate firewall.
Have you spoken to your IT department?

sorry penguin, not yet. I'm waiting for more "work issues" before I put a service call in. didn't want them to come just for my stuff.

I work with a tech network crew at work. They block all but certain MAC addresses of devices that want to connect. They want no VOIP or UMA going over the lines. When you can't connect? Sometimes those networks don't want voice going over them (they can block this)
