Search / Find Function On Blackberry...Question

Does the Find/Search function on the BB support multiple keywords ?

If you search for 2 or 3 keywords, will it locate only records which have all those 3 keywords in them, irrespective of which data field each keyword exists ?

Eg. I have several contacts with the name of Bob, but i search for 'bob' with also a keyword of 'york', will it show bob whos address has New York ?

Does it search private records too ? And if it does will it display them ?

Thanks a lot.

Yes it does support multiple keywords. The search function has 2 fields: text and name. So if you were trying to search for a contact named Bob you would enter his name in the name field, and put new york in the text field. This would hopefully help separate it from others in your address book who are always living in new york.

No i didnt mean that. Thats contacts specific. I meant just mutiple keyword search. Not searching for different fields. For eg. What if i searched for a notepad item. Which has no fields. But i want to find a notepad item which has the word telecom, fee and waiver in it. Can it report the records which only carry these 3 words. Also can it search globally, I mean within contacts, notes, calender etc and report records which have only these 3 keywords. The 3 keywords might be anywhere. Maybe even inside the phone number field. But it can catch them. It does on my palm with an inexpesive freeware and i want to know if BB can too. I dont even mind buying a 3rd party app for this.

Thanks

I just tested the builtin search function on my 9000 and it gave me the option to search these areas on the phone. It appears that it *is* case sensitive though. But it does not seem to work with multiple keywords on the "text" line.

Messages
Calendar
Contacts
Memo Pad
Blackberry Messenger
Tasks

Hmmmm, No thats not it. How do i explain what im talking about......hmmmm. Ok im meaning a google type search of your entire BB data. Nothing to do with an online internet search or anything however.

Thanks

You can't do what you're asking.

As devnull stated, those are the only areas you're able to search. And within those, you can only search one keyword/sender. There may be a 3rd party application that does what you're asking. But if there is, I am not aware of it.

Billy Bob > Please post a seperate thread for yourself instead of trying to hijack another. That way more people will get to see your post and the relevant answers will come.

Please don't hijack this thread. It sounds like the cable came loose on impact of the drop. You should be able to open it up and reseat the cable. You can also order a new screen and try replacing it.

If your device is under warranty or you have insurance, you might want to go that route.

JS > Just to keep you posted, since ive been using the BB for about a week now. Ive found it does what i was looking for. Only thing it does it either within the name fields or text fields. But in text if we entered 3 or 4 keywords it does locate all the records which have all those particular keywords within the text fields. It does this on all text based fields , except name fields in address records. Ofcourse you could also add a name in the name field in search and then it wud report all the records having the 3 key words given in their text fields. and + the name in the name fields.
