Release date for 9000
Spoke with someone who I know that works with RIM who indicated that the 9000 will not be released until September at the earliest. He would not give me any info about the device at all.

Great Christmas gifts!

My 8800 is still rocking so I am good |

I kind of agree with Sanders. I say right around Thanksgiving to be a Christmas gift that will compete with whatever Apple brings to the table. |
The sad thing is that Apple will have their device out long before September, assuming that's the new target date (seems right).
|
I can't upgrade upgrade until December (2008) anyway, so I have no worries.
|
Merry christmas it would.

Yep, I know now what I'm getting myself for christmas! It's between a 9000 or a Ducati motorcycle!?! Decisions, decisions... Hmmm....

If it is Q4, then it is. The Apple phone will be out before then, perhaps RIM is hoping to not go head to head during the early months and then pick up later. For me, the 8820 is still rocking along, but I would much rather have more power, more memory and a nicer display. Oh well its retail for me anyways.

Q4???
I guess the hardware failure will have to wait a wee bit longer now. *quietly puts sledge hammer back in drawer* |
Already bought me a Harley, guess I will wait and keep using the 8830.

I've been told by my friends that they really don't know a release date. There were some major issues that kept it from coming out earlier (I think they were hoping May/June)
Their biggest issue was heat generation (some got so warm you couldnt hold it for a long period of time, and also battery life. I've heard both of those got fixed, although aparently the device still gets a little warm. I'm assuming that they were maybe hoping to release the 9000 with the launch of 4.5. I don't see the 9000 as a competitor to the iPhone... I mean hell the Curve 8320 does what an iPhone does for the most part. And I am told that touch screens are in the very early stages, they've only recently started prototyping devices for that. |
RIM touch screens might be at a basic stage but apple have made an almost perfect job of it. If RIM leave it to late apple will crush them with the iPhone 2 and exchange support. They're no 2 in the smart phone market after one year so I don't think I am being unrealistic.
