Question about phone dialing

I have been having an intermittent problem dialing the phone on my 7290. The problem is that from the main screen, the 7290 doesn't always go into "phone mode" when I press a number key. Sometimes it will go into "address book" mode. For example, if I start dialing phone number 235-1111, the 7290 will show letters "erd" (instead of "235") as if I'm trying to search for a name in the address book. I then need to hit the ESC button to go back to the main menu and then the number keys seem to work from there. It seems to happen after I've used one of the speed dial buttons -- does that put the 7290 into a different mode?

Basically, I just want to Blackberry to always be in phone mode if I start typing number keys from the main screen.

Thanks!

The easy way to acces the phone feature is to press the space bar and then the type the number.
Also check the options in the phone feature, and check if the Dial to Home Screen is set to No. If it is, you wont be able to dial from the home screen, so if you set it to yes, you will.
Note that by setting it to yes you disable some of the shortcut features that the 7290 offer and that's why it might have been set to No.
Hope this helps.
