Docs-to-go included in OS 4.5 should be able to read Excel as well as Word.

You probably need to update your Documents to Go if you aren't seeing Sheets to Go on your phone. Open Word to Go, press Menu, select Register, fill out the registration information, and you will get an email with a link for the update.

You can install it via WiFi, but you can do it via a computer.

DocID: 14179 - How do I install Documents To Go on my BlackBerry smartphone?

Follow the instructions under Alternative Installation.

are there a version of the documents-to-go programs that are free that do the same things?

Documents to go can only read word, excel, or powerpoint files. You need to pay for the premium edition to enable the editing functionality.

You can edit documents in the free, basic version. You just can't create new documents. However, it's very easy to work around this by creating a blank document on your computer and sending that blank document to the BlackBerry. And if you make the file "Read Only" before you send it to the BlackBerry, you won't risk overwriting the file when you edit it on the BlackBerry.
