Missing Music files
 

I recently loaded about 8 gig of music on my phone, and it does not all show up in the musc player list.

I have done a battery pull several times, and some more music has showed up, but not all. The files are visible through the computer, using Mass Storage.

Is there a maximum limit to the number of music files that can be indexed by the bold, the operating system, or the music player?

It sometimes takes a LONG time to index that much music. I'd let it just sit there overnight and check it in the morning.
Took well over two hours to do about 11GB on mine.

Also, make sure the "missing" tracks are playable on the device. DRM'd tracks won't work.

Ok, I have let the thing scan until it is done, a bunch of times. Still missing music, in some cases, parts of Album sets. The original reason I noticed this is because Disks 4-6 of a Led Zepplin set showed up, but Disks 1-3 did not. I had 3161 music files, and 1542 showed up.

So, since no one has really answered, I have started experimenting.

I deleted a bunch of files, so now there are 1534 files. 1508 show up in the Music Player, including all 6 Led Zepplin Disks. All I did was delete files. Very strange.

I added back 496 files (A BUNCH of Beatles, and some other stuff). After that I had 2030 files, and 1517 files available in Music Player (Only some of the Beatles, and all the Led). Not sure what else was missing.

Now, deleted All the Led Zepplin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd (146 files), down to 1886, and re-scanned. Music Player shows 1501 files available. Another Beatles album showed up.

I am not sure what is going on, but it really looks like something in the indexing maxes out at around 1500 files. The variation could have to do with how much info there is about each song, or something.

Try to reformat the sd card. Then put the music on the card before you put it in the blackberry. Then put the card in blackberry. Also, go to options, memory:
Media card support- on
Encryption mode- none
Mass Storage Mode Support- on
Auto enable mass storage mode when connected- prompt
That is how my blackberry is set and my music shows up but I don't have as much music as you do.

I do not have any way to put the music on without putting it in the phone. All my music shows up, if I get it down below about 1500 music files.

All of these are the way I always have the phone set:

Media card support- on
Encryption mode- none
Mass Storage Mode Support- on
Auto enable mass storage mode when connected- prompt

So I put the files in subdirectories and they are now all detected. Perhaps there is a limit on the individual BBThumb.dat files or something.

workaround for missing music files
 

thought I'd share a workaround that might help others. I had the same issue: used my PC to copy music files (mp3's) to my Blackberry, but couldn't see them on the device. So, using the BlackBerry Device manager and my PC, I copied some music files from the media card to my BlackBerry memory. then, when I disconnected the BlackBerry and looked, it scanned for music and found everything, both in memory and on the card. I then deleted the duplicate files in memory, but the index to the card remained intact and I was good to go.

I know this sounds somewhat goofy; but it was easy to do and worked!
