BlackBerry Tour & Tethering

Does anyone know if you can tethering the Tour on the Verizon network? If so, how do you do it? Thanks!

VZ Acces Manager. You can find it on vzam.net You also need to have tethering added to your data plan.

Any idea what Verizon charges for this as an add-on for the BB? I would hope that it wouldn't be the full monthly price of a dedicated wireless card - i.e. $60/month.

jsntrenkler 07-23-2009 01:41 AM

I believe it is $30 a month to add Tethering to a Blackberry Device if you have the $30 a month BIS Plan, $15 a month if you are using the $45 a month BES plan. Either way it comes out to $60 a month pre-tax. FYI if you don't know what BES is, you are 99% on the BIS plan for $30 a month.

confirmed, I use tetherberry on the tour and it works fine.

Notrega 07-23-2009 09:42 AM

Yep - $30/month

I use tethering on my 8830 via USB cable and bluetooth thanks to the help from this forum.

Will the tethering speed be improved by upgrading to the Tour? I know the speed I get through my 8830 is not nearly as fast as a full EVDO modem.

Thanks.

just purchased Tetherberry. You can't beat it. Especially today at 50% off. $25 and you can tether your device for life to as many computers as you want.

That beats Mifi for $60/month and VZ's BB tethering for $15/month.

Is Tetherberry not in violation of Verizon's terms?

How can they do this?

Can Verizon somehow block Tetherberry sometime in the future?

$tockmarket 07-24-2009 11:08 PM

i asked the vz rep yesterday and he said they just had a meeting about it. according to his understanding, no it does not violate vz's terms.

i don't think anyone can answer your second question. for now it's a go and according to the vz rep there were no red flags in the future.

I cant get tetherberry to work on a MAC. Does anyone have a suggestion. Does it work for MAC?

daphne 07-25-2009 12:25 AM

Looks like there is a beta for a Mac version. The Windows version doesn't work on Macs.

I find that TetherBerry connects more reliably and always faster for me than VZAM.

I am loving Tetherberry ... It's always possible that Big Red will come up with a way to block it in the future, however for $25 it was more than worth it. Great Software!
