Latest OS: 8830 4.5.0.295/4.5.0.175 (Multilanguage)(ESN Devices)
This will load on ANY carrier's 8830 by following the instructions below.
This is only for the 8830 model (ESN based model) From Sprint BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.295 (Multilanguage) Package Version: 4.5.0.295 Consisting of: * Applications: 4.5.0.175 * Software Platform: 3.4.0.55 * File name: 8830AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel295_PL3.4.0.55_A4.5.0.175_Spr int_L.P.exe * File size: 82.58MB Download : https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8830: 1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. 2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS! 3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file. The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device. Previous OS here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...n-devices.html How to determine if you have an ESN or MEID based device. From the main menu, select Options -> About (this is the ONLY way to check) ESN devices - On the About screen you will see 8830 MEID devices – On the About screen you will see 8830m NOTE – You cannot install ESN-based software on a MEID device, nor can you install MEID-based software on an ESN device. They are NOT interchangeable. |

No sooner did I finish loading I got a call. That darn chirp is still there.

I'm new to the B'berry scene. I have checked my B'berry, it is an ESN type. I looked at the Options/About software version and it states "v4.2.2.196 (Platform 3.0.0.85)
When I go to the listed website that JSConley listed above. (since this is my first time to post, I'm not allowed to enter links). It lists several download options. I follow down the list and there is one that reports the same Application # and Software Platform #. My question is...Do I download that version and when the software is loaded via the "loader.exe" it updates the software on my B'berry to v4.2.2.365? thanks, |
Welcome to the forums.
When you go to the site and select 8830 World Edition, Select the Download link below BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.295 (Multilanguage) Package Version: 4.5.0.295 Consisting of: * Applications: 4.5.0.175 * Software Platform: 3.4.0.55 * File name: 8830AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel295_PL3.4.0.55_A4.5.0.175_Spr int_L.P.exe * File size: 82.58MB It should be the second link I believe. Once it is downloaded, follow the steps above to install it on your device. |
This won't install on my 8830 for some reason.
I am on v4.5.0.169. When I run Loader.exe, it didn't show any new device software. I have removed the vendor.xml file before I start Loader.exe. I even did a search on my disk drive for vendor.xml and couldn't find any. Has anyone successfully upgraded from v.4.5.0.169 to v.4.5.0.175? BTW... the file I downloaded is 8830mAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel295_PL3.4.0.55_A4.5.0.175_Sp rint_L.P.exe. What is the different between this one and the one without the small "m" after "8830" (8830AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel295_PL3.4.0.55_A4.5.0.175_Sp rint_L.P.exe) ? Update: problem resolved. the file without the "m" works. After doing some research .... that file is for 8830M (a model I didn't even know exist until now). |
I currently use sprint version of Blackberry 8830. I upgraded my phone to version 4.5.0.175 (platform 3.4.0.55), but I noticed that since i have carried out this upgrade all data services on my phone has stopped functioning, these services include internet, BB chat and mails. I also noticed on my phone menu the absence of the BB browser. I will appreciate if there is anyone who can help me resolvce this issue. Thanx

Make sure that you have a 1XEV in capital letters. Turn the Wireless Radio on if needed.
Then go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Menu Key > Register Now. |
jsconyers, i'm just curious to know if you have experienced the 'chirp' on your audio calls. it seems like they have made memory management better at the cost of audio quality.
|
I have never experienced the chirp that many have complained about. Not sure if it is a Verizon thing compared to a Sprint thing. I have tried the 5.0 betas and have had the reboots on my 8330 when on a 45 minute call, and I have seen Verizon users that don't experience that. There are not facts to back this up, just speculating.
|
Pretty sad. If this was a Storm issue, every tech site would be all over the issue. It shocks me that the carriers would not be scrambling to correct the problem even if these phones are on their way out.

I have a SERIOUS memory leak with this OS. I have a Sprint 8830 and cannot get higher then 9MB on file free. I do not have Facebook, AIM, Google Maps, Twitter, or anything running that would drain the memory. Any idea on what to do???

So how bout email on BES?
I have a verizon 8830 and updated to this latest release. It went in fine but then i had the problem that i couldnt get web or email. I followed the instructions above and got my web services back but my BES email is still not coming through. Any ideas? BTW, I never had more than 5 MB free when i have done a batt pull before and now i have upwards of 8MB on a reset.
I just need a little help getting my email back or else im in trouble. thanks |
Upgrading your OS will break the BES connection. You will need to have your device reactivated on your BES.

Freakin Newbies.... o wait thats me.....
jsconyers,
Thanks for your awesome efforts. I was just about to post a "nevermind, I got it back when i reconnected to my BES at work" when I saw your reply. Alls right with the world again and my mem is still up from ~1MB to ~8MB after a reset. That should give me at least 2 days between batt pulls now :) Forgive the newbie posts. I have lurked a bit but that was my first post when i feared having to tell my IT that i upgraded something that i wasnt supposed to touch. Thanks again Bodycounter |

There is no 5.0 for the 88xx devices as there's not enough memory. I was referring to using OS 5.0 on my 8330.
But saying that, I have never experienced the beeping sound on my 8830 when I had that as well. |
For those that did not see my other thread:
Sprint officially released Blackberry 8830 4.5.0.186 on 3/26. I'm installing it now...has anybody noticed any differences? It can be downloaded here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E Patrick |
Sprint already released a later version, the 4.5.0.311 package, 4.5.0.186 software.
|
IARE: That is actually the same version I mentioned in the post above yours...
