Bold 2, can't set 3G only?

hi all,

just switched from storm2 to bold2 for testing purposes..
in storm2 or bold 1, i can set the data mode to 3g only. but in bold2, the only option i have is only 2,
1. 2g only
2. 2g and 3g
is there any way for me to get the 3g only on the bold2? anyway the set im testing now is t-mobile bold2.. thanks a million..

Why would you only want to use 3G???? And I don't believe you can do it either

Yes you can! Check Mobile Network Options

NJBlackBerry 03-16-2010 09:27 AM

ast_ph - how do you set the Mobile Network Options / Network Mode to 3G only.
I do not see that option.

alpwhite46 03-16-2010 09:46 AM

Options ---> mobile network ---> network mode ---> 3G, 2G, 3G&2G

NJBlackBerry 03-16-2010 09:48 AM

Not on T-Mobile in the US. 2G, 3G&2G only.
What version of the OS are you running?

alpwhite46 03-16-2010 10:04 AM

That's odd...
I did not change anything from when I got it out of the box except get the latest BBM..

How do i check what OS version I am running?

katebang 03-16-2010 10:42 AM

im using 5.0.0.330... is there any ways i could get the "3G only" option? gprs and edge at my area is very very bad.. does upgrade the os could really solve the problem?

alpwhite46 03-16-2010 10:44 AM

I think it might be a United states thing

NJBlackBerry 03-16-2010 10:47 AM

Celcom is in Malaysia.

T-Mobile's 3G network is very sparse, even in cities where they are 3G. You would have a very negative experience if you had that setting on their network. I imagine this has something to do with it.

I have almost continuous 3G coverage on my 9700.
I bet somewhere there's a map for that.
YMMV.

Trying upgrading the OS to a non vendor specific version.

NJBlackBerry 03-17-2010 07:00 AM

Thanks; I haven't run the vendor specfic version (whatever that means) since the day I got the 9700.

Interesting, on my BB Bold 9700, it got 3G, 3G and 2G. I guess it depends on how carriers set it up.

Huh? Was this in reply to me?

NJBlackBerry 03-17-2010 12:39 PM

Yes, i was in reply to the comment "Trying upgrading the OS to a non vendor specific version."

All of the software is written by RIM and tested and released by the carriers.

I am running the latest available version and have run many different versions. Never seen 3G only.

KEN AROK 03-17-2010 12:56 PM

NJBlackBerry, the only way to set to 3G is set automatic to manual network selection. It works.

NJBlackBerry 03-17-2010 01:05 PM

Thanks. Remember that T-Mobile 9700s are different. Changing to manual does not enabe the 3G only option.

KEN AROK 03-17-2010 01:13 PM

Absolutely right.
