Nextel and 8700?? When??

I see the new 7100i and the 8700c... I also see plenty of "bug" traffic in this forum about the 7100i. I am working with my 7520 and don't want to drop down just because my little "pokey" antenna is killing me when my fat butt sits in the car...

Anyway, want to start a thread for tracking the progress of an every slow Nextel (with or without Sprint.. since they are not a blackberry force).

I am quite happy with my 7520. To tell you the honest truth I really dont have significant service issues unlike that of any other carrier. It isn't as flashy as the 7100 and the 8700, but give it time.

Dont get discouraged, take one for a test drive and return it after a week if it is not your thing, but I am sure you will like it. Bugs, there a numerous bugs with any device. Nextel, I have never had better service in the USA with any company.
Happy New Year

I doubt you will ever see an iDen 8700. Sprint is very intent on removing the iDen network from service as soon as they legally can.

southwestcomm 01-02-2006 08:24 PM

Sprint is not removing the iDEN network. It is fully supported through 2010. Don't make statements that are completely false.
Realistically the 8700 will be on the CDMA network to take advantage of the EVDO network.

They are changing everything over to the CDMA format like sprint...

europamo 01-04-2006 12:47 PM

Sprint is selling iDEN back to the Federal Govt for a sizeable amount. Eventually us Nextel customers will be using Sprint's network

I made this my last contract this summer, unfortunately I will be paying them to get out of it, as I will probably be moving back to Europe this coming year.

i am on a gov. account type. so i dont pay for early termination fees.

SmurfBerry 01-06-2006 07:41 PM

I am on a Gov't account and the taxpayers pay for my termination fee.

Walkie Talkie

So what happens to the walkie talkie service by the time Iden dissappears?

You use Sprint ReadyLink. Hopefully it will be on par with DirectConnect by the time iDen is removed from service.

I agree the 7520 is solid, not many issues and lost of software to upload to the device that is not compatible with 7100. Although the others are faster and have more RAM etc... The 7520 has more software that is handy to me....ie TeleNav, 411, BBToday, BBLight and a few others.

Any more news on this yet?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7100i/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

I would bet money on the fact that it will be more than a year before we are an 8700 for Nextel. I'm actually considering the jump to sprint for the blade.....I'm damn near tired of my blackberry and Nextel......more Nextel than my blackberry

Maslows 02-24-2006 11:43 PM

I know I will be buying a bb next month when i get my deposit back next month from Nextel. I have already prepard to get the 7100i, I bought a Jabra BT500, I ordered a high capicity battery & door, I downloaded all the appropriate applications & themes, & I am going to order the fortte flip down croc styled case with my name embroided in it this weekend. But I spoke to someone and they mentioned something about Nextel having a 8700 in Q2 of 2006 which i figure is next month. So should I get it or is the 8700 just a rumor?

NJBlackBerry 02-25-2006 09:37 AM

I'd suspect it is a rumor, based solely on the fact that Nextel came out with a 7100 almost one year after the GSM models...

The IDEN network is at stands is at near max capacity. All new customers are being pushed to join the CDMA side. If it were me I would be okay with it anyways. My nextel service is getting alot of "SYSTEM BUSY TRY AGAIN LATER" messages lately. On the other hand I can honestly say that on my Sprint phone I have not seen it come yet in the 2 months that I have had the phone.
