can my company see my web browsing history and downloads?

hi i'm a noob here and I just have a quick question. I have a company issued blackberry. It DOES NOT have BES (which is company based email, right?) The email address it has on it is (myname)@att.blackberry.net or something to that effect.

My question is, through their account with ATT, or through any other electronic tracking, can my company see my web browsing history? And, most important, will they know if I install an application on the phone? I really need to install an application on it, but I think I would get fired if they knew about it. thanks. ;-)

If you are not on BES then the answer is no. All they would see is what is on the bill - i.e. amount of data and the numbers you dial and only then id they get the bill directly.

Do you know if they have any tracking software installed? If they do, then all bets are off.

thats good to know and thanks. No, I don't know if they have any tracking software installed. I checked the phone as best I could but I know from experience that there are programs that are quite undetectable. Is there any way for me to tell? Also, is it legal for them to have tracking on the phone without my knowledge?

I know that my boss records all the calls made on company land lines. But when you call a company line it tells you your call may be recorded etc. There is no Maybe about it, all the calls are recorded. Does Blackberry or AT&T offer tracking software? Or would he have to install a third party application like mobistealth or flexispy?

If they are paying the bills and it is their device, then they can do just about whatever they desire - all under the guise of "security".

The best advice I can give is to use their device only for company business and get your own device for personal calls and email. And don't do anything with the company device that would be suspect.

The 8520 doesn't have GPS so it would be difficult if not impossible to pinpoint your location.
