Why are there not many interesting for Blackberrys?

If you compare the Android Market to the Blackberry App World, you automatically notice how Blackberrys mainly have apps for stuff like e-mail and social networking sites. Android phones have apps for anything, from games to mp3 downloading to prank-calling apps. The Android Market has over 100,000 applications, while the Blackberry App World has a little over 10,000, and a vast amount of those are not free.
All this just leads to my question: Why are there not many interesting applications for Blackberrys.
Keep in mind that when I say interesting, I mean apps other than Data/statistics or social networking sites.

Well, your premise is incorrect.

There are LOTS of "interesting" applications for BlackBerry.

Depending upon what your interests are, one platform may be more suitable than another.

Also, I personally prefer QUALITY over QUANTITY so 100,000 may or may not be "better" than 10,000.

Simple...the majority of Blackberrys are used for work, while the rest of the smartphones are used for fun.

Personally, I've seen a lot of the popular apps for the iPhones and Androids, and really don't think I'd ever bother with any of them. I only use my BB for calls, emails, texts, some on-the-go social media, and occasionally as a GPS. I don't even use BBM.

It all comes down to preference and going with the product that matches your needs.

It is purely a personal preference or requirement. Think of iPhones and Androids as toys, and Blackberrys as tools. The iPhones and droids can do what the Blackberry does, but they weren't designed so much for a corporate environment unlike BlackBerry. iPhones and Androids were more or less designed as consumer phones, and many of those extra 90,000 apps are more than likely consumer ones.

I agree with the above posters. The iPhone and Androids are mostly consumer/fun devices. BBs are business/government devices.

Even though BlackBerry has been pushing into the consumer space, and iOS and Android have been trying to advance in the business space, the roots of each platform remain in different arenas.

BlackBerry's have their pedigree in the business space, with emphasis placed on reliability and security. The needs of business users are what guided the development of the platform for many years, and I doubt RIM will ever truly move away from that. BlackBerrys are purpose-driven mobile devices. App development will always follow that prime directive. Some will call that "limiting". Others will say it's guarantee of fewer but higher quality apps.

I think RIM is looking to move into the "consumer" market but hopefully will keep its business appeal and not move into the toy market too far.
