Newbie Questions.....

Okay, I have had my BB for abouy 3 months now. I do graphics for a sideline, so its been bugging me not to have this puppy more customized beyond my background images!! lol!!

Now.. have a few questions.
I have a 7290. When you guys refer to 'the 7200' series, does that include the 7290?

I downloaded Plazmic CDK for 4.1. I have Java VM. When I try to install Plazmic, it says it cant find JVM. wondering if this is something you guys have come across before & can help me on!??

For custom rings. I looked up how to do this on the help file in the BB. the proper format is mid or midi? there a restriction on the size ect?
Im gonna thank you guys in advance, & hope I can contribute to the BB community in here in the future!

Yes, the 7290 is included in the 7200 family. It has more memory (32 MB) and better backlighting and is quad band, but in the same family.

You need to have handheld OS v4.1 installed to use the Plazmic CDK. If it is not installed there are tons of threads about installing 4.1 on a 7290.

There are loads of restrictions on ringtones. Particularly on the 7290. Search this forum and you will find tons of information. The 7290 has limited midi rington support (unless this changed dramatically in v4.1).

4.1 installed but Plazmic still says JVM not installed. I try reinstalling it. Looks like a PC issues!

thanks again!

I think there's some confusion going on here. NJBlackberry was not quite correct when he said

That is incorrect. The Plazmic CDK is the Content Developer's Kit, which is installed on your PC, which couldn't care less what OS you actually have on your device. To install the CDK, though, there are other prerequisites for your PC. You have to have the Blackberry SDK (software development kit) from RIM, and you have to have the Java SDK (NOT just the VM) from Sun. This is the only way I have been able to get the Plazmic CDK to work properly. Install Java SDK, then Blackberry SDK, then Plazmic CDK.

Now, to actually use content you create in the Plazmic CDK on your Blackberry, such as themes, you do have to have OS 4.1 installed.

the 72xx series is generally seperated by provider, not sure if they are all that way, but a 7250 is nextel, 7290 is Cingular, etc. The devices are not identical, but basically the same form and function.

K this IS progressing!

JVM was a bad file.. reinstalled it & got everrything going!

NOW HERES MY ISSUE!! LOL!!

Greeat program easy to use.. popped out a basic theme in no time.

I uploaded it to my BB using PC desktop.

Now when I go into my BB Options & then in Applications I see my theme there.. in the proiperties it even lists it as 'a user defined theme'

However.. it wont show up on the themes section so I can take it for a test drive.

What do I have to do or what have I done wrong???

You have to install the Plazmic Theme Reader that the CDK software spits out whenever you export a theme. Then you have to reboot your device after you install a new theme if you don't see it in your theme list.

Yes, that is what I meant. To install a theme generated by the Plazmic CDK you need handheld OS v4.1.

Version 4.10.256 is installed in my handheld!!

I like it.. but the fact is I still cant see it in themes.. it shows up still in Apps.

No question.. 4.1 is in the 7290!

Sbufkle 01-26-2006 08:24 AM

Duh..

I hadnt installed the theme reader!!!

ALL IS GOOD!! THANKS A MILLION TO EVERYONE!!

Now Im looking & see my theme is ugly as sin! lol!
