Leather Cover

Has anyone purchased a leather cover for their PB yet? I've seen several on Amazon and was looking for some input. Any other must have accessories?
Thanks.

Re: Leather Cover

So far, the only cover I have purchased is the leather journal case. However, I promptly returned it because the design of the case made an already finicky power button impossible to push. I will likely be ordering the leather sleeve and the leather envelope in just a bit. Maybe those will be better.

Keep an eye out for third party cases... word on the street is there are several bad designs out there that cover the bezel, rendering bezel-based gesturing impossible.

Re: Leather Cover

I agree - Journal case design makes it unusable. Waste of money.

I'll wait awhile and see what some reputable 3rd party vendors come up with.

Re: Leather Cover

I bought two of the Targus Truss cases, http://www.targus.com/us/productdeta...berry playbook, one for mine and one for the wife's. I need something now and can't wait. The negatives I've read on the similar RIM case steered me away from it. The fact this is a Built for BlackBerry product, and the hard shell, sold me. Hope it's functional.

The purchase price at Amazon.com is about 10 USD below suggested retail.

I bought a BlackBerry leather case aboiut two weeks before I got the PlayBook. Bought it from Amazon and I see now that it is out of stock with no projected arrival of new stock.

I have found it to be pretty comfortable to use and it does not get in the way. Buttons and ports are easily accessed.

Re: Leather Cover

I am not sure what a Journal Case is, but I am guessing it might be the one I bought. I am not sure how the case gets in the way of the power button if it is the one. There is a nice sized cutout for the buttons at the top including the power button.

Re: Leather Cover

That's not the official BlackBerry Journal Case, then. The journal case has no cutouts for the power or volume buttons, only cutouts for the ports on the bottom edge of the PlayBook. Bad design, if you ask me.

Re: Leather Cover

You are probably correct. I did not expect it to be a genuine BB product when I ordered it.

I believe the manufacturer is named Vizu and I see they raised the price $5 even though they are out.

The Targus one looks nice and I see there is an Otterbox version coming. $59.99 with shipping to be determined.

Guys I was searching a bit, I was looking for a leather case but with a built in Bluetooth keyboard for the Playbook. Something along these lines:

Leather Case With Built-in Bluetooth Keyboard for Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 (BLC-KB6121-1) - China Bluetooth Keyboard for Galaxy Tab ,Wireless Keyboard for Samsung Galaxy Tab ,Keyboard for Samsung Galaxy Tab in Keyboard

or this

This one sounded nice but got bad reviews on Crackberry and folks are returning them because it covers the cameras and other items.
Blackberry PlayBook Venture Case - Hipstreet

Anyone come accross anything else like these?

Re: Leather Cover

The Targus case I mentioned above arrived, and it is OK. Quality is good. You can put the PlayBook in the case with volume controls up, or USB and HDMI ports up, of course; and when closed can access the ports or controls, whichever is "up." There is a notch for the camera, so you can take pictures with the PlayBook in the case.

As I mentioned above, there is a hard shell (under the leather), and it is front and back, not just front.

The case is not overly thick or heavy. With the PlayBook, the package is still lightweight and low profile.

Re: Leather Cover

Ira, do they have a camera hole at both top and bottom so you can insert either way and still use the back camera? The case I bought actually has a bit of an indentation in the sewn edge that gives a bit more clearance for the front camera and notification led.

I could insert in either direction too, but the cameras would be blocked. Would be okay to charge and have the front cover closed though.

Re: Leather Cover

No. Camera opening is only at what i'm calling the top, which is the open long edge when the case is closed. I gave the wrong impression above. The PlayBook can be put in the case either upside up or upside down -- say if you wanted to put the case in the truss configuration and still be able to connect the power cord -- but the power and volume and headphone jack up is clearly the expected normal placement.

The top facing the user is uncovered except at the corners. The camera and notification LED is completely unobstructed.

Re: Leather Cover

Essentially the same for mine, thanks!

Re: Leather Cover

I just received the BlackBerry Slip Case today and I like it. Simple, effective, and it doesn't block the power button. Plus, because it's a slip case, I don't have to fiddle with the case like I did with the Leather Journal Case when I want to put the PlayBook on the rapid charging stand.

Re: Leather Cover

I got the 'sleeve' https://store.shopblackberry.com/Pro.../ACC-39311-301

to go with the one I have for my Torch. I like the look of the 'envelope'. Nothing else out there looks like it. Unique.

Made the mistake (IMO) of buying this Targus | THZ053EU – Targus Zierra™ Leather Portfolio for BlackBerry® PlayBook™
good concept, well reputed company, but way too bulky for me. Defeats the purpose of carrying such an elegant looking device in a bulky 'day timer' looking 'thing'.....lol....just my opinion

Re: Leather Cover

What do you think of the BlackBerry Sleeve? I got the slip case (the sleeve's less fancy brother) and love it. Is it difficult to get the PlayBook out of the slip case?

jabxyz 05-03-2011 12:01 PM

Re: Leather Cover

Both the Slip case and the Sleeve look sleek, elegant. If your planned use of the device fits the way that those cases hold onto the device you are lucky as those are really very nice. For my potential application I'd be looking at the Convertible case https://store.shopblackberry.com/Pro.../ACC-40279-301 if it had a foldable BT keyboard built into the cover. It obviously wouldn't be near as slim and slick as the other two, it shouldn't be too bad. Anyone seen anything of the sort out or on deck? Thanks.

Re: Leather Cover

Went to Futureshop on the weekend (try Best Buy if you are in the US) and got the Convertible Case: BlackBerry PlayBook Convertible Case : Tablet Cases & Skins - Future Shop

Tried a couple of different ones while I was there and thought this one was the best as it has cutouts for the HDMI, USB, mag charger, headphone and the button covers work decently.

Re: Leather Cover

Looks nice and with good fitment as well. Now I just need to find a version with the BT keyboard built in.

darkmanCANADA 05-05-2011 12:12 PM

Re: Leather Cover

Come on!!!! Who wants to carry around another BT keyboard and mouse. Isn't the idea of a tablet to be portable? If I am at my desk I use my desktop which has dual 23" monitors, If I am on the road I use my Dell 14" laptop and if I am running around I use the Playbook and Storm2.
