Why is the 9930 seeling for less than the 9900?

I don't mean retail price, I'm talking about used. On eBay the 9930 goes for roughly $250 while the 9900 is selling for closer to $300. I looked at all the specs and I can't see any differences besides the radio. I also make sure I'm looking at the camera models. What am I missing?

The radio is the difference. The 9900 uses a GSM based radio, usable all over the world.
The 9930 CDMA based radio is primarily for Verizon and Sprint only.

And many people (particularly in India and Nigeria) buy unlocked 9930s expecting them to work properly on GSM networks since they have the radios, and then are quite surprised when they don't.

What do you mean by "work properly?" I'm using a Verizon 9630 right now on T-Mobile and it's working just fine - though I'm not in India or Nigeria.

Most GSM carriers do not have the service books for CDMA devices and ones that did are getting rid of them. Your 9630 will cease to work on T-Mobile eventually as well.

An example closer to home is some people are trying to get 9850 Torches to work on T-Mobile. The network doesn't have the service books and the "sideloaded" ones that worked on old Storms and Tours no longer work.

What network connectivity are you getting on T-Mobile? 2.5G? EDGE?
Working and working well are two different things.

Yeah, just EDGE. The phone is pretty old so I wasn't expecting anything faster out of it and quite honestly I don't need anything else out of it. But I do need it to function. I didn't know phones would just stop working. The only phone I ever owned that just stopped working was an old analog Sprint phone.

If you ever have to wipe it, you're not getting those service books back, at which point it will only work for phone and text.
