Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
Yeah, but....I just read: This product will not work on Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular. Will Verizon ever have this baby?

Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
This looks like another foul-up by blackberry management. the bands listed are not fully covered by AT&T and if you do a check with AT&T you will find they do not guarantee coverage for the listed bands. It's all related to their license in different areas.
Not sure if T-Mobile is covered. The phone looks nice but unless they cover the major carriers, Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, AT&T among others this will be another mss. The other issue is the off brand name carriers like Cricket also use the majors cell network so they wont work on those also. the disclaimer in the article states it all "Although FD-LTE coverage is fairly wide-spread across Canada, we recommend checking the coverage map of your service provider to ensure the best possible experience. I really want this BlackBerry but I don't want to leave Verizon.

Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
I agree. I strayed to iPhone and couldn't wait for the Classic to come out and go back to BB. I want one very badly but now that I've read some of the details I'm not as enthusiastic. Will not work on Verizon? What the? I really thought BB was on to something with the strategy of going back to basics and doing what they do best. But not having it on Verizon is a sure-fire way to kill this thing.
Who will even know about the Classic if it's not on the number one carrier? |
Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
The bigger issue is if any carriers will carry the phone.
AT&T only shows the Q10 and it's not listed on the group of phones they first show. you have to specifically check Blackberry to se it. Not good. |
Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
Can anyone comment on the process, pros, cons and usability of buying an unlocked BB Classic when they are out? What do I watch for, what won't work correctly? I'm on Verizon.
BTW, we are all at the mercy of choosing a carrier based on where we live. We all have to take in consideration who the best carrier is in our area. |
Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
Pro's
it's a blackberry, looks nice, BB10 OS, Works in Canada, can install Android apps Con's does not work on most carriers, Battery may not be removable. too expensive. If it does come out and is supported by ATT and others then it may sell but Blackberry management keeps making the same mistakes and misses the dates and Apps needed. Also why did they miss Verizon and Sprint. Real weird. |
Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
Okay, thanks. I really wanted to ask if I bought an unlocked BB Classic, can I take it to Verizon and have a working device? What are the drawbacks to doing this?

Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
Classic will only get data and no phone calls until VOLTE is released which might allow it to work on Verizon

Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
I ordered mine. Hopefully there won't be any issues with TMobile. I'm over my Galaxy S4. Really miss my 9900 and the Q10 just never felt right to me. I hope the Classic is going to be a winner.

Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
shouldn't be an issue with T Mobile

Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
Verizon and ATT don't support the radio frequency's available ..yet. Blackberry may add other carriers to the list after they see if the interest exists. the web site does indicate US carriers will be added.

What carrier networks will the Classic work on in the US? BlackBerry Classic supports the following US network bands: FD-LTE: 1, 2/25, 4, 5, 7, 13, 17 HSPA +: 1, 2, 4, 5/6 Among the major US carriers, this banding is not compatible with CDMA based networks (Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular). NOTE: US Carrier specific devices will be available at a later date. Although FD-LTE coverage is fairly wide-spread across the US, we recommend checking the coverage map of your service provider to ensure the best possible experience. Just wish this unit had removable batts and it would be perfect. Oh well... |
Re: blackberry classic / preorder invite before 12-17-2014
the only issue I saw when I checked is the different frequency's are hard to correlate with each carrier. I'm sure Blackberry did not include the statement
"Although FD-LTE coverage is fairly wide-spread across the US, we recommend checking the coverage map of your service provider to ensure the best possible experience." unless it wanted to cover all bases. Example AT&T covers FDD-LTE 2 and 4. Are those the same as FD-LTE 2 and 4? HSPA+ on AT&T only covers 850 MHz and 1900 mhz. So getting a direct answer on coverage seems impossible and that may be why Blackberry makes the statement. Either way you need to be sure it will work in your area on the carrier you want. Remember they only committed to Canada coverage so far. |

The design may be good except for the battery issue and cost. They may be trying to step up/into to the IPhone crowd. A lot of people with IPhones just replace the phone every time a new model comes out or it seems to not work they way they want.
