Question Regarding 8100 "Music Player"
If I recall correctly, the 8100 is going to have the ability to play MP3s (right?) I was wondering that, if I were to receive an e-mail with a MP3 as an attachment, would I be able to open it right on the Blackberry and have it play right there on the phone? I work in music and constantly receive new tracks, and hate having to go to a computer to listen to them when I have a Blackberry in my pocket. Thanks in advance!

Do not believe so, atleast not right away, .wav attachments are supported and work out the box...good luck getting a 50MB wav file and downloading it tho..

BG - Speaking of the MP3 player, a long time ago I had a Samsung i600 windows phone that was generally a POS. But I could play music on it via the memory card but it put a huge hit on the battery.
Have any sense on the battery life for the 8100 given the new features? BTW, thanks for sharing all the information. I am ready for a small, thin phone. |
I havn't charged my 8100 in 1 week, there are 2 bars left, constant email, web browsing, and mp3 playback and its still kickin!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
1 week? :-o Is the battery different than the 7130c? |
Wow...very impressive. In my previous Blackberries, I found phone use seems to impact battery life more so than anything else so hopefully this is a good sign.

Battery is a different battery it is yellow. Same size though..

I've never had a phone with music capabilities so I'm not familiar with how it works.
My question is, will I have any problems storing songs on the phone from a Mac computer? |
Would I be able to load a 2GB microSD card with songs and other multimedia for use in the 8100?
Is there a limit to how many songs are loaded? Thx, Ed |
dont believe there is a limit per se, just what you can fit on the card, I am currently using a 1GB card works fine, 2GB should be no problem...

Omfg this phone is like a godsend!!! One week no charge?!?!?!? Omg can't wait
|
I was wondering if you can record videos like my MDA can, also on the screen size
|
See that whats is not too clear, I do not believe you can record videos out of the box, mine can't. That might be a limit of my pre-production device, but I do not think the 8100 will launch with video recording capabilities.

does it have a headphone jack for ear buds/headphones?

In another post there is a link to the FCC website where the RIM submittals and testing information is located. There are numerous photos included. One of the photos located in the EMF testing indicates that it is a test run on the unit with stereo earphones attached.

Can you transfer MP3s to the memory card using the USB cable? Or do you need to get a card reader and load them that way?
|
Boy Genius.
Sorry for more questions ... but you info on the 8100 is uncanny! It just might pull me away from the SE W810 - a phone with superior stereo (wired) headset & music playback capabilities. 1> Is the ability to transfer music to the MicroSD via a Mountable/Removable (Mac/WinXP) drive? Also can it just accept MP3 transfer via USB? Furthermore, how is its ability to support .OGG files? 2> Video Recording capabilities ... I do think this is something over say 6months RIM will include as there will be a HUGE demand for it. If I could program in Java 2ME; I'd already have registered a business, and started coding an intuitive app already. Along with partnering with RIM to find how to hook it into the stereo speakers for playback and the microphone for sound recording. Personally I'd ad the ability to annotate the videos, heck even super-impose small text in a footer part of the video ... maybe even the ability to have text scroll past the screen. This would be EXCELLENT for MMS & small (less than 2MB) email attachments. Hmm ... since PIN to PIN msg'ing is over the data network .... I'm wondering IF IT COULD support video PIN to PIN.!! HMMM??!!? PS to all coders .... I patent this idea with a gentleman's patent seal of honor ... Just donate a production 8100 to me if serious applause to this idea is awarded, Thanks. So my question is ... what video playback formats does it support? H.263, H.264(I sincerely hope so!), .mp4, etc?! If so its ability to scale would be phenomenal. Lastly, If I could program a video recording app, movies would be saved to the MicroSD card automatically. Eitherway, RIM's choice for the MicroSD/TransFlash card is a good-1 because of its slim, small size, and incredibly low power requirements to read/write data to it compared to the MiniSD/ SD cards. |
