Anyone know the target price for the 8100 from Tmobile?

I saw this is due to come out Sept 12th. Anyone know what the target price will be?

Thanks!

$199, don't you hate it when people do that?

Jumpin_Joe 08-31-2006 06:28 AM

Er...Is that $200 with a one year contract? I am working with the Wife Unit to convince her that it's OK for me to spend, like, $400 in a week or so to get the BB without a contract. I plan on buying it directly from T-Mobile...

So...I gotta' imagine that $200 will be with a contract - right?

edit: I had incorrectly written: "So...I gotta' imagine that $200 will be withOUT [emphasis added] a contract - right?"

JeffAUV 08-31-2006 09:13 AM

I bet $199 is with a contract or contract extension. Probably $299 without contract

nickbee 08-31-2006 09:21 AM

Cool,, I'm due for a contract extention... So 2 bills (give or take a dollar) should do it!!!!

StanSimmons 08-31-2006 11:08 AM

T-Mobile doesn't do 1 year contracts anymore unless you are getting a business plan.

Suggested retail is $399 for the 8700g and $299 for the 7105t. T-Mobile currently has a $100 off the 8700g and $200 off the 7105t. My best guess is that the 8100 will fall in the middle at $199 (after rebates) w/ 2yr contract.

T Mobile will still do a 1 year contract. They will try to encourage you to get the 2 year deal, but if you request it, they will give you a 1 year. The upgrade price for the phone usually increases by $50-100 if you go with the 1 year instead of the 2.

Yeah....I know this. But if RIM is really trying to target the end consumer, I was hoping that they'd be lowering the MSRP down to $300.

Keeping my fingers crossed....(Not that I wouldn't pay the $400....)

nickbee 08-31-2006 11:30 AM

Mmmmm I don’t mind extending my contract 2 yrs, but would I still be able to get an upgrade credit in a year if a new phone comes out?

mobilecontrol 08-31-2006 12:06 PM

$199 will be with a 2-year and 1-year will most likely be right around $249-$299. With no contract, you could expect near $349-$399. This is not a piece of crap phone. I don't know why some people are expecting it to be $199 with no contract. You know what's $199 with no contract from T-Mobile...a Samsung SGH-T209. If you know what that is, then you know the 8100 is far superior and there is no comparison and I should slap you...

Also, keep in mind, retail price for the old ass 7105t is still $429.99. Hopefully you all get the idea by now.

After you wrote this, I corrected my post to read: "So...I gotta' imagine that $200 will be with a contract - right?"

I wasn't trying to call you out brother, I just wanted to help clear things up for everyone since I do work for T-Mobile.

No worries.

But since you volunteered that you work for TM, are you guys allowed to sell the phones without a contract? I suspect so...I've been emailing my local rep and she's not mentioned that I must resign....

Does T-Mobile want us to? No. Just like they did with the SK3.

Will I do it to please my customers who want to have the best phone we offer? Yes I will. I'm not going to turn away T-Mobile customers who have been with us for years.

Jumpin_Joe 08-31-2006 12:49 PM

My sales rep has been good to me. She knows that:

1) I am the decision maker and person responsible for paying for our 5 phone family plan.

2) I've referred her to other people (and she's gotten sales from that)

3) A friend of mine has seen the light and is leaving Cingular in the fall - another guarenteed sale for her.

4) I had to follow up for 6 months to get a referral credit with her. Her manager's laptop was stolen, someone was not applying the credits, etc. So she and I have worked together before.

So I hope she'll sell it to me. :-) Or else I'll wait for it to show up on Ebay.

What about corporate pricing? Bad news consumers, but we pay less.

I'm expecting 100 without a contract extension. Any other guesses?

WTF, I hate you. I couldn't get it that cheap unless I stole it. How many must be ordered for a corporation to get that kind of pricing?
