Boy Genius has a post on his site about the 8820 releasing as early as next week, so it's still in the speculation and rumor part of the mobile world!
The 8820 is just an 8800 with wifi, everything else under the hood is still pretty much the same! Aside from it being at&t branded, and possibly black instead of dark blue. The 8800 had the best battery life out of any BB I owned, kiss that goodbye with wifi! |
Unless there will UMA with AT&T or the ability to use a VoIP application, I don't see a benefit to it or 3G (other than tethering with 3G). The EVDO Blackberries are no faster than the EDGE in viewing web pages and the latter have better battery life.
If they could only give us a reason to have the WiFi... Regards-Michael G. |

I'm very interested in this model as I use WiFi everywhere, everyday.
JSanders....my question is, do you think they will have improved the build quality? I have both the 8800 and 8300 and I'm disappointed at the loose / squeaky side panels of the 8800. Regarding the 8300 it's nice and tight, noise and flex free, nothing loose, just the way a BB should be. Other than that I enjoy it, and would be very happy to have one with WiFi. Cheers... |
i "think" RIM would have had a little extra to make some improvements to the build quality, yes. But, my 8800 does not have those issue even now, I feel it is a pretty solid device.

It's encouraging to hear that your 8800 is fine. Perhaps it's just that as an early adopter, I bought mine the minute they became available, thus getting one that was less than stellar. However on the other hand, I must remember that like other products these are mass produced and one is always subject to getting one that is off specs a bit. Other than the build quality of mine, I really like it. I'm completely sold on the BB platform and truly enjoy the reliability. Now that I've enjoyed using a BB as my main communications and work device I cannot imagine being without one. It has truly enhanced my productivity and mobility! Cheers.... |

As far as build quality goes, my 8830 is one of best I've ever had. Totally solid!!! Much better then my original cingular (at&t) 8800.
However the loose rail issue has been fixed on the 8800 , I checked one out when I picked up my new Curve! The 8820 should be of the same quality. |

3G would make this a perfect phone. However, since I rarely ever use the camera on any of my phones, I would probably buy this for the GPS and Wifi versus going with a Curve. Obvioulsy a phone with GPS, Wifi, Camera and 3G would be perfect! Any idea if a BB like this is planned?

No one every knows for sure what they are working on or about to release. It's closely guarded info. However I do know that they read this forum for feedback and to see what we are asking for, so posting it here never hurts. So again while it's not known if a model like this is planned, it certainly makes sense, it would appeal to me and I would think, many others. We'll just have to wait and see, time will tell. In the mean time I will work on improving my humor.... |
So much for the "As soon as next week" release time frame  ...
