Anyone tell me what a notification which looks to be a globe with lines of latitude and longitude...it's at the top where notifications for sms and MMS messages show.

Really would be great if...

It turns out the update was on another machine. Uninstalling desktop 5 and going back to 4.7 does not fix the situation...
So here the lowdown:
Updating worked on PC 1 with BB desktop...
