I had that problem too, but at some point it worked (dunno why). But there's always downloading to your PC and installing from the desktop.

Unfortunately, its the applications themselves that need to have a change (see my earlier reply about MidpSSH).

I know that the only thing that reliably works for me over WiFi without a data plan...
