I know that there is a program called Blackberry Alerts out there that would allow you to assign a specific led color for a specfic task but it costs $10 USD. I am wandering if there is any freeware...

Unfortunately at this moment, you cannot make outgoing calls if the BB is locked. I doubt that they will fix that issue cause I think that lock acts like a "keypad" lock.
