I ran into this on my server... Looks like we corrected it in a similar manner, but on first look I imagine that the code posted still has issues with certain characters... like accented characters...

That setup should work... just remember that SSP 1.5 will not work on 4.0 handheld or DTM software. i.e. Once you start upgrading the handhelds to 4.0 software you will need SSP 4.0 as well.
