You can use MSN alternatives over WiFi, I think. I used to use Instango (http://www.instango.com/) on my old 8100, try that.

Try going to Options > Profiles (Ring Tones). Once you're there, press the menu key on whatever profile you're currently using and select "Edit". Then scroll down until you find "Messages [e-mail]"....
