Alright, so I fixed it, sort off.
I just cut off the root and deleted the EDGE and WAP profiles, which means it'll have to default to wifi for internet.
It seems to be working with BBM too, which...

My 8520 keeps sucking my cell phone credit even when I've specifically set all applications to use wifi only; I don't have an active data plan and I've disabled the TCP APN, but around $5 of credit...
