I tried a 9700 and a 9810 and both work on wifi without a carrier or sim chip for internet connection to get music

Ok but still confused on exactly what your trying to do. A cell phone is a cell phone and one without a carrier service is the same as the next regardless of the model or manufacturer.

Also Confused. I have a few older BB's and they will connect to the internet via a browser on WIFI but why? As aiharkness said it is easier to simply use a the laptop or a device designed to stream...
