I've been using jmIrc (0.95) using the HTTP proxy supplied with it to bypass the restrictions set by my company's BES and firewall. Have you tried using that?
I've not used BBIrc, I was scared away by the fact that it didn't seem to have been updated in several years. If you've tried it, I'd be interested in knowing your experiences. I'm specifically looking for a feature where it can vibrate the device when someone mentions my nick. An alert notification (like the new mail indicator) on the home screen would be wonderful also.
