Karina's fix worked for me as well, so far. I had an ongoing sync issue which I think was carried over in the intellisync profile from a previous Blackberry Desktop install. It first was crashing while reading the Outlook Calendar, then it was freezing while reading the Device Calendar.
As for now, this has worked. As a precautionary measure, rather than delete the RIM file mentioned, I just renamed it with 'old' appended to the Research in Motion filename.
