SLB: Using the Blackberry 8800 as an USB Tethered Modem
I'm glad it worked for you. I don't know your situation, but I do pay for a data plan with tethering. Anyway, I'm not to trying to be anyone's conscience, I just wanted to point that out because I'd hate to hear of anyone getting in trouble over a link I posted.

I was irritated with at&t when I discovered I was basically told a lie, either that or the CSR was ignorant to the truth. I was told that I could only tether my BlackBerry using the at&t
Communications Manager software. After months of no issues, the software simply stopped working--would not recognize my device although the BlackBerry DM would. Even updating the software would not work. I stumbled across the method I posted and was pleased to find it worked. It is also a more reliable connection than the at&t software. It tended to timeout on me.
