The BB is set up, assuming that you have a Blackberry dataplan, that when connected to WiFi, data will flow that way, i.e. email, Internet, etc. There are some apps out there that may not use WiFi and there are some phone services that will always use a small amount of data via the carrier's network.

And a BB is not an Android, so something that a "Droid can do that a BB doesn't do should not be a negative. I do no know of an app that will turn WiFi off when there is no WiFi network connected or in range. If that is a show stopper, the BB isn't the device for you.
