As a maker of hardware and its matching software, I can tell you that the HW is changing SO fast it is hard to keep up with everything.. SO, testing criteria have to be established and tests completed using them. THEN you can go do more tests.. (and have something else change on you!)..

So the 2G will probably work just fine, but currently is not 'supported', ie, they won't commit to fix anything if it doesn't work. Then they'll get to test with some number of 2G chips.. (can't test with ALL of them, too many). and then they will do whatever they decide to do (release sw fix, say it doesn't work right enough so its not supported, or whatever)..

and then the cycle repeats..

getting from concept, to first prototype, to first manual builds, to certification level (automated process works, woo woo) , to manufacturing volumes level is a LOT of work.. supplier feeds, etc all linking up to the big event.. think about the volumes that had to be produced pre-announce to get 10-50 in each outlet on announce day(a million?)... so product content was frozen months (8 weeks is 2 months) ago..
