I don't believe this would be feasible for most Canadian BB customers unless they frequently travel to the USA. A USA telecom such as T-Mobile would be unable to provide you with a Canadian telephone number. Even with LNP (Local Number Portability) effective March 14, 2007 this doesn't allow telecoms to port numbers from one country to another, just with in the same country. Though if you're only using data access not voice then having a USA telephone number wouldn't be a concern for someone living in Canada.
