Default I like the 8800 a lot

It is wider/taller than the pearl but is still very pocketable. I don't use a holster for it, even if wearing jeans on the weekend.

I may be going to the 8300 when that comes out because I would like a camera, but the bluetooth was important to me as well, so I switched from the pearl to the 8800. fWIW, the 8700 didn't work in my car either.

You may want to wait for the 8320 that is rumored to be coming to t-mobile. it has a camera and is shorter/narrower than the 8800. It may be the perfect device (at least for 3-6 months)! ha.

Either way, the 8800 has been rock solid for me. No software issues, phenomenal battery life (goes like 6-7 days with 300 emails/day and moderate talk), very good RF, and excellent volume/speaker.
